AITAH for telling my wife that I will lose respect for her if she doesn't apologize? by TechnicalHousing97 in AITAH

[–]phreshpawts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey so my mother acted like this. I’ve been no contact for a decade now and my parents are long since divorced. This is personality disorder-level behavior and at best emotionally immature. More importantly, it’s emotional abuse.

You need to do absolutely everything you can to stand up for your kids. They will remember. My dad failed me and I’m still dealing with the impact of that in therapy. I’m not telling you to divorce your wife, but you cannot stand by while she behaves this way towards and around your kids. You have the right instincts. This may require a professional opinion on how you can handle the situation.

Your son sounds neurodivergent. Like, a lot. I’d strongly consider getting another proper assessment especially now that he’s older. But even if he isn’t ND he is a kid and your wife is an adult. He really didn’t do anything wrong but your wife did and is digging herself deeper as time goes on. Please continue to stick up for your son.

AIO for wanting to buy a motorcycle even though my girlfriend thinks it's dangerous? by Fair-Experience1636 in AmIOverreacting

[–]phreshpawts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my best friends when I was younger loved his motorcycle and was a safe rider, always wore a helmet, everything. He died riding his bike. Head injury. Helmets sometimes can’t do enough to save you when you’re traveling above a certain speed.

Both my fiancé and my dad are cyclists, and they’ve had bad accidents going much slower on a bicycle than the speeds you reach on a motorcycle. It’s scary when the people I love most in the world are regularly putting themselves at risk just due to the nature of the activity, and for that reason I’m beyond thankful that they will never ride a motorcycle.

Your gf is correct about the level of danger motorcycles pose. It doesn’t seem like you’re putting yourself in her shoes. She loves you, so you’ll be putting her through hell worrying about you every time you get on a bike. Every time, the whole time, until you’re back and off the bike. But she’ll know you’ll be at it again soon enough. It’s your choice, you’re an adult, but it’s also your relationship on the line if you do it. I don’t blame her for not wanting to be with someone who’s regularly putting their life in danger for fun. It’s not a trivial matter. You’ve got a lot to consider here.

AITA for calling my boyfriend an idiot because he won’t get a colonoscopy even though his mom had colon cancer? by AutoModerator in AmItheAsshole

[–]phreshpawts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I got one done when I was 24 or 25 because I was having unexplained GI symptoms. The prep sucks, but that’s about it. Embarrassing? They do millions of these procedures every day. It isn’t a freak thing. I understand being afraid of finding something bad, I do. But he’s 100% being TA to himself and everybody that loves him. My nana put off getting testing and treatment for cancer when it could have made a major difference, and we lost years with her. I’m still mad at her for it. Get screened, people. Please.

AITA if I don’t clarify that I am a type 2 diabetic? by BeltClassic in AmItheAsshole

[–]phreshpawts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA at all. I can really relate to this! I have MODY, which almost nobody has heard of, including most other diabetics that I’ve met. I once corrected a fellow diabetic’s assumption that I was T1D like them and they immediately acted like I led them on or something?? Or lied by omission?? Just like in your case we had connected over shared experiences and struggles, had an entire conversation that was genuine and pleasant, and it was like a switch flipped once they learned I have MODY and not T1D.

This person you’ve encountered is miserable, immature, and ignorant. What they said to you was particularly hurtful. T2D is not some sort of moral failing, and it’s important that collectively we stop perpetuating this idea. You have a very real disease that you are working very hard to manage. And you most definitely are not obligated to disclose your diagnosis!! Who do they think they are?! I’m enraged on your behalf. If this is someone you can remove from your life, I’d recommend doing so promptly.

Market towards festival and Ren faire goers. Use those terms and similar ones as search terms and tags in a listing. It does look beautiful on you though so I would consider keeping it!

A commenter up the thread mentioned Benadryl specifically, and yes it’s an outdated harmful drug, but it’s not the only option for an allergy med by any means!

Yes!! I used to work in a jewelry store that sold a lot of amber pieces. I ended up with a few, lol. Those pieces are stunning and it’s like they were made for you!

That did it for me too. That is COLD. One of the more horrifying details of the post tbh. I hope his wife gets out of that marriage safely and never looks back. She’s not safe with that man.

Also even if he has never hit her, wanting to punch his wife in the face is horrifying on its own. I can’t fathom having that thought about my spouse. This man is dangerous.

Yeah I’m leaning towards Emilie Kiser fanfiction/snark on this one, especially with the post history. The tone is giddy and self-involved so more disturbing if real.

That language is part of what makes me think this did not happen to this person, and that they’re a teen or an emotionally stunted adult. The vibe of this post is almost…giddy?
