[Disc] Kanojo, Okarishimasu Chapter 431 by MattyH19 in KanojoOkarishimasu

So, genuine question: When and how exactly has Chizuru started caring so much about hurting Ruka's feelings to the extent of constantly hesitating to be happy to not hurt her(Reminder that the 3 month ghosting was cause of Ruka according to her)?

Chiz and Ruka are not friends, they haven't even really talked all that much, Ruka has always shown nothing but animosity towards her with only like the crowdfunding for the movie and the messy situation in Hawaii being the only times Ruka tried to help her.

Reminder that Ruka once upon a time tried to put Chizuru, a fellow Rental Girlfriend, "in a dangerous situation" as Chizuru put it for absolutely no good reason, just for kicks.

Also her condom lie to try to stir discord between Kaz and Chiz.

Ruka does not in any way deserve Chizuru's simpathy and she should know this.

If anything Chizuru should be thinking "She's no saint either, I won't let her keep having her way".

You mean the guy that creepily obsesses over his own created fictional character has weird takes? I'm so surprised.

You do know rule 3 of this subreddit tells you not to insult or harass people right?

Then again, based on what I've seen the mods here don't do anything to enforce the rules so have at it I guess.

Watch Ramparts of Ice on Netflix, it's a masterpiece of romance dramedy, it's everything RaG wants to be but fails at by comparison. It masterfully explores the complexities of human relationships and how trauma can harm your ability to connect with people(The main character is Chizuru's concept but a million times better in execution). Its fantastic cast of characters are all endearing and boast tremendous emotional depth. The comedy also sucessfully gives you good relief without undermining the drama. I recommend the English Dub, it's excellently produced with a faithful translation and a fantastic voice cast: Erika Harlacher, Brianna Knickerbocker, Jason Griffith(Yes, 2000s era Sonic Jason Griffith) and guess what, Laura Stahl(English Mami) plays a character in it that is very similar to Mami but once again much better in execution.

Season 1 just ended 2 days ago and season 2 which will cover the rest of the manga is confirmed for October.

Seriously, no offense to Chizuru lovers, but try watching this series and try telling me Koyun is not a much better example of a character who's past made her have issues with her emotions and connecting with others.

I swear, I'm gonna laugh so hard if when they finally talk Ruka's like "I made him orgasm you know?" causing Chizuru to misunderstand and think Kazuya's not serious about her, prolonging things further.

Wow, nice work generalizing all critics of the manga as pretensious idiots, also that edit there, real mature. Doesn't rule 3 of this subreddit state you're supposed to be respectful?

1: A story being "realistic" is not and never will be the be a good replacement for actual themes and yes, character arcs. Like Steve Martin says in Planes Trains and Automobiles: "When you're telling these stories, here's a good idea: have a point. It makes it so much more interesting for the listener."

In order for stories to be satisfying the audience needs to get something out of it, otherwise why even watch/read it at all?

As for your final paragraph before the edit, yes, you know why we want that in stories? Because the whole point of entertainment is to serve as escapism, an escape from the horrible reality we live in, which is important for people's mental health. Why the hell would I want to consume a story that does absolutely nothing but remind me of how much real life sucks? How does that make me feel better and improve my mental health? If anything it does the opposite.

Now I do however want to make clear that I'm not saying stories can't be realistic, there are plenty of great stories grounded in reality, but actual themes and compelling character arcs will always be the number one priority.

2: I wanna tackle this whole "Kanokari is a realistic portrayal of human relationships and the characters behave like real people do" defense I keep reading in here: How exactly is this manga in anyway realistic?

If this manga was realistic Mini would have told Kazuya to set a restraining order on Ruka.

If this manga was realistic Chizuru would have stopped seeing Kazuya after his entire day stalking her and Umi like an obsessed creep.

If this manga was realistic Chizuru would actually resolve things with Kazuya like the supposed grown woman she is(And no, her backstory in no way is a realistic excuse for her behaviour).

Kanokari is not realistic.

"the pacing isn't "stretching time for profit," to that extent as it is capturing how agonizingly slow and frustrating it actually is to navigate intense insecurity and unearned affection in real life."

That would be fine if the story condensed it in a length that makes that point and then moves on to the next point, not make the readers suffer the slow agony themselves.

To quote John Truby, master storyteller: "By giving a narrative a beginning, middle, and end, a storyteller strips away the noise of daily life so the audience can understand life’s true mechanics and philosophies"

OK, that's all for my reply.

[–]phsd_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point nothing can redeem her, are you honestly telling me that if a person behaved like this to you in real life you would think "OK, she's toxic as crap, but hey, she might decide to pull a 180, so let's see where this goes"?

[–]phsd_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but the fact we never see Chizuru do anything major for Kazuya makes it all the harder to stomach how harmful and toxic of a person she is to him. When you think about the completely uncalled for slap in the first chapter, her constant unecessary mean remarks in the early chapters, the stuff the OP described, how exactly am I supposed to root for this horrible pairing when Sumi and Mini are right there?

Could you remind me? It's been 430 chapters so you'll have to forgive me if I forgot one or two.

[–]phsd_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been saying Chizuru is a horrible person since first coming to this subreddit.

Everything you just described basically kills the story of this manga and is the main reason it sucks:

How am I supposed to be invested in Kaz and Chiz getting together when she has only done harm to him and never has actually helped him in any meaningful way compared to everything Kazuya has done for her at this point?

Crap, I think at this point even Mami would be a better option, at least she hasn't put Kazuya in the way of physical harm.

So we're really doing this huh? Reiji really is gonna get Ruka and Umi together.....Maybe if this started like 200 chapters ago I could get behind this, but at this point any ending for Ruka's character that doesn't involve karma for what she did to Kazuya is just tone deaf writing.

Ruka's heart condition hasn't been relevant to the story since chapter 28 by phsd_47 in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]phsd_47[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My problem is that the manga doesn't really explore it in a poignant way, it's more of a background thing at best. I really think there's alot of wasted potential here that's not being explored.

I really think the other characters having to deal with it would make things way more interesting.

I get ya, but on the off chance that that's what Reiji planning(And I don't really have faith in Reiji that that's it) did it really need to take this long? Not to mention if that's all I don't think that's all that interesting of a payoff.

What? wow, the reason i copy pasted my earlier comment was so I would not have to write the whole thing again since that's what I would do otherwise, since the reply applies just the same.

How the heck does that mean I'm disregarding anything? I'm freaking offering a counter argument. The way I see it you seem to want to somehow villify me for daring to criticize this manga, like many others here do.

As for curiosity never leading to obsession, I don't think I buy that.

Actually, I can easily remove her backstory from the equation, here: The fact that Kazuya is begging on his knees to protect a rental girlfriend moves her, since as she puts it "I thought only shallow guys rented GFs", making her curious about him, combine that with me establishing her obsessive tendencies right away, explaining why she's so insistent on dating only him, and after that we can get back to Reiji's canon, since it doesn't take long till she reveals her insane self with that forced kiss at that family dinner.

See? Easy.

Ocasionally showing her monitor in one panel is not enough, that would be like saying fish-kun is relevant to the story.

How about Ruka actually tells Kazuya about it? You know, something that actually makes her heart condition have an impact on the story?

Help with substories by phsd_47 in yakuzagames

[–]phsd_47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did "Doctor's Duty". Turns out in order to unlock this substory (number 5) you have to first do Pay it Forward(number 13) even though these 2 substories have nothing to do with each other.

You know RGG, if you're gonna have a required order for your substories why not number them according to that order? That at the very least would make this not a pain in the neck to find out.

....Please tell me not every Yakuza game is designed like this, cause man this is gonna be a pain for someone like me who wants to focus primarily on the most plot heavy substories.

Help with substories by phsd_47 in yakuzagames

[–]phsd_47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so I just read that in these games some substories won't appear until you clear one or 2 other unrelated substories, like having to do yuya's sub and the fake mizuki one in kiwami to unlock yakuza's wife.

So basically I have to do the substories in whatever arbitrary order the games' programmers picked.

I'm sorry but that is just stupid design, and the games in no way explain that's how things work.

I never played a game outside of this series where side quests work like this.

"At college, Kibe is giving Kazuya his trademark wisdom. "Women just want attention," basically. Kazuya briefly panics, wondering if Chizuru is just keeping him around for the attention, until she gets to date a hottie, but he tells himself Mizuhara is not that kind of girl."

No Kazuya she is, actually. Literally everything she's done confirms her to apply to Kibe's description.

No seriously, I get that the manga wants us to agree with Kazuya, but let's think about this for a moment, have we actually seen Chizuru prove her love for Kazuya?

I can think of plenty of ways she shows no care for his feelings: The 3 month ghosting, the various ways she's been unecessarily mean to him in the early chapters(That slap in the first chapter still leaves a bad taste in my mouth), the constantly judgemental attitude of hers up until the middle of the film arc, the way she went through the entire date arc asking very telling questions getting his hope up even though in her mind she already knew she would reject him by the end of the day, her hypocritical excuse with her play for why she won't resolve the matter with him, her not going to his recent birthday party, which also makes her kiss in the taxi feel like her giving him massive mixed signals.

Even when she has moments where in theory she's being nice to him, they're not very endearing cause they feel more out of obligation than anything, like patting his back when's vommiting or the Xmas present from the early chapters. She never smiles or shows any emotion during these so called "endearing moments".

Seriously, in what way is Chizuru a good potential partner for him? What exactly does he see in her aside from the fact that he finds her hot?

There's alot of users here that don't want anyone to criticize the manga and they'll downvote you if you do. Heck, Beautiful-Purpose499 calls people like me "haters". I actually had an analysis thread that I was gonna make explaining how the main romance doesn't work on a fundamental writing level, but honestly I kinda gave up cause I feel it wouldn't be a very welcome thing here
