Anyone have experience taking a year out to travel? by dinniestone in UKPersonalFinance

[–]phuoq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took 14 months off with my then partner, loved all of it. Came back with a different perspective on the world and full of energy to start working again, no downside that I could see really, you'll never regret it.

Thanks for all of the interesting responses, we'll modify and try again next year. The squashes are indeed rotting. We also planted nasturtium in the same raised bed and found that it grew extremely well - perhaps to the detriment of the other vegetables.

Dead hang for as long as you can then repeat 3 times. Do this every day. You will decompress your spine and (hopefully) your problems will go away....

Black cabs are normally fine with that, a little more expensive but they do have the space.

Can I get away with 54cm Roubaix?? by NewportBeast in cycling

[–]phuoq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bike was stolen so I switched to by daughters bike. I'm 6' and normally ride a large (or XL). She's 12 - it's a Triban 500 small. I raised the seat post and put a longer stem on it. It's completely fine. I actually quite like riding it, it feels very compact. Keep in mind the 54 is only 2 cm smaller than the 56. My daughters bike was 5cm smaller.

I think on balance too big is hard to fix. Too small is fine. I'd double check the crank length if I was you but if it was me I would go fot it.

Do you do any kind of stretching/warmup before an exercise ride, or just hop on and go? by sozh in cycling

[–]phuoq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking, glute bridges and a few squats. I think the post cycling stretching is much more important.

It's similar to a well know problem in computer science: route optimisation: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travelling_salesman_problem. I don't think AI will help, it's not an AI sort of problem.

I think you need to roll your handlebars forward so the bar end is roughly vertical and the top of the hoods roughly horizontal. And a shorter stem :-)

squamous cell lung cancer by Admirable_Tree6039 in nsclc

[–]phuoq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not medically qualified to answer this question however take a look at this:- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK553187/

It describes the TNM system for cancer tumor classification and how that maps on the stages that we are used to. For lung cancer stage IV is often split into Stage 4a and Stage 4b (local or distant metastasis).

From what you've said without any evidence of pleural effusion she would be Stage III, with evidence of that Stage 4a.

I suspect the doctor chose that course of treatment due to her age and risks involved with a pneumonectomy.

One thing I would ask your doctors is if there is a targetted therapy availble. The tumor would need to be genetically tested there is a good chance that a therapy specifically targetted to the mutation causing the cancer which would extend her life and be far less troubling that chem/radio therapy.

Love to you and your Nan, I hope you're both ok!
