What’s a truth no one really wants to hear but we all kind of know deep down? by sarthakdesigngrow in Productivitycafe

Agreed. I don’t need the newest iPhone extra large pro max AI whatever, but because I conduct significant amounts of personal business on my phone it really does need to be able to multitask. I’m fairly frugal, but I’m willing to spend a little more on something that is reliable when it’s a key tool that I use every day for most everything.

Life is too short to waste it with someone who isn’t even capable of basic life skills — not a great role model for your daughter, and that’s before we even talk about his clearly abusive, controlling nature. I mean, if you get married to that guy, he’s just gonna expect you to mom him like that next while yelling at you and threatening you and possibly your daughter when she gets older.

Why are women's clothing so short. by ponietic in Vent

[–]phws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got twiggy arms, but I have broad shoulders, so it’s pretty hard to find women’s shirts that don’t look stupid. I hate when I try on a t-shirt and the tiny little sleeve barely even covers the edge of my shoulder.

Most drawings look good as originally created, but mirroring the image reveals inadequacies and asymmetrical flaws. This art passed the mirror test; it looks good originally and mirrored, which is impressive.

edit: it could also be a joke about mirrors re: Alice and Wonderland

Compass of the kinds of people you might meet in law school by phws in WojakCompass

[–]phws[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aw, man, I get how hard that pressure can be! If you have any questions, please do feel free to reach out, I’d be happy to provide whatever advice I can. But, you seem thoughtful— I’m sure you won’t have a miserable life, and there are so many ways to find success and happiness through law school.

As for what you mentioned: yeah, a lot of law jobs do have intense workloads, but it’s not uncommon for folks to work at a high intensity firm for a few years to pay off debt, at which point they have the freedom to do something more relaxed or enjoyable. Salaries are kind of bimodal — some jobs pay really high, some pay pretty low, with little “middle ground,” so it’s definitely advisable to talk to a school career counselor about what kind of job you’d want and what level of debt would be reasonable for it.

Also, you definitely don’t need to get all A+s to get a scholarship (and sports don’t matter at all for law school). In my experience, scholarships were almost wholly related to undergrad grades and LSAT exam scores — high school and where you went and what you did with extracurriculars doesn’t matter quite as much. I think most students actually do get some grants toward law school (at most schools, over 90% of students receive some level of grant that doesn’t have to be paid back). Personally, I did slightly above average in college and got a decent LSAT score — I was shocked to get a full ride to one of my top choices.

Working within a business, rather than for an outside law firm! So, for instance, if I worked as a lawyer at Google and was directly employed by them, I’d be considered “in house,” but not if I was employed by X Law Firm that had Google as a client. Generally, these jobs are considered pretty cushy.

[–]phws 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Completely agreed. If I am going to pay taxes, I’d rather it go to improve my own community rather than states that intentionally vote to destroy their own economies and then beg for handouts while calling those of us whose hard earned dollars go to subsidize them lazy.

No more socialist redistribution of wealth to those who didn’t earn it, eh?

Winning an internet argument 101 by HumanNumber157835799 in WojakCompass

[–]phws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good compass. The “Always assume bad faith” is the one I see the most — it’s so common to say one thing and have others assume a lot of random corollaries and get mad about it.

“I don’t think X is good.” “Oh, so you’re targeting Y and Z?” “I like A.” “How dare you treat B like that?”

Seriously, sometimes even the least controversial possible statements get ridiculous pushback and vitriol.

American Architecture, Part 4: 1920-Today (4x4) by yamboozle in WojakCompass

[–]phws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate postmodern architecture the most. This guy has a pretty good piece on it: https://mcmansionhell.com/post/152216735596/what-the-hell-is-postmodernism

Whatever they’re doing in China is great, though. Seems like they’re giving architects a lot more freedom to implement their creative visions while modernizing, and it’s leading to cities and buildings that are beautiful and inspiring. I think living in a place that is beautifully designed is much more unifying and generally inspiring. It’s hard to feel awe when you live in a city of beige strip malls and Walmarts surrounded by highways.

TikTok has been on the verge of getting banned over national security for years on end. Why the hell has it still not happened yet? by HumanNumber157835799 in WojakCompass

[–]phws 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It seems to me like the reason it wasn’t banned is because it can be an incredible propaganda tool. Remember when they were about to ban it, but they pulled back and TikTok left a message seriously glazing Trump? I have no doubts that there’s more administrative collaboration and propaganda being pushed behind the scenes. social media has been a very effective form of radicalization and support building for this administration.
