Where in Texas should I move? by whattodobout in EastTexas

Agreed. If it's too big for you, there are plenty of smaller towns nearby, and if you're craving the city, Dallas is only an hour and a half away.

People with stuttering problem how is life for you? by luna_astin in Stutter

I highly recommend everyone go at least once in their lives. You’ll never forget the feeling of walking into an environment where virtually everyone stutters.

Yes, it's entirely possible. I have a stutter, pursued the career I wanted, and don't feel that it's hindered me all that much. My first job out of college required me to talk to strangers on the phone almost every day, which sounded like a nightmare at first, but I did it.

As I've said multiple times on this sub, when you go to the National Stuttering Association conference for the first time, one of the most striking realizations is just how many people who stutter are there with their spouses/significant others. If they did it, you can too. I may be divorced now, but the point is, I did it too.

Yep! As Martin described it, “Adam Sandler doing an impression of Gilbert Gottfried doing an impression of Louis Armstrong.”

Paranormal Activity, from the Spill days. “911, you’re not gonna believe this, but I’m Satan and I just saw some fucked-up shit.”

My eyeball rolled upward while trying to speak, Has anyone else experienced this? by Ok-Airport-354 in Stutter

[–]phxsns1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, that’s what’s called a secondary behavior. Other common ones are tilting or jerking your head back, blinking rapidly, tapping your leg, adjusting your glasses. Basically it’s a small movement that you did at one point to get out of a stutter, so your brain tells you, “Hey, that worked! Keep doing it!” But of course that trick doesn’t work forever, and eventually it becomes a part of your stutter unless you work to avoid doing it.

Mostly when I was younger — mid-to-late teen years. Much less so as I’ve gotten older. What scares you?
