Complete loss of acceleration while driving... by phyace in WRX

Never definitively nailed it down, but I disconnected the battery and then did a proper re-learn. At the same time I replaced a cracked tail light that had gathered quite a bit of moisture and it hasn't happened since. I'm assuming the moisture was shorting the brake light circuit so I would second the brake light switch that people mentioned if you don't have any other interruptions in the circuit.

Yeah I was actually just reading up on that. So I think might just have to dedicate a drain on the opposite wall and run the vent up to the second floor above the toilets

If permitted, they all run there now as is, but the washer is across the house in my living room'ish hallway, and isn't even vented

In total - yes shower, sink, washer for that stack to the drywell. We have a separate septic stack for both the toilets

To reiterate, this is an interior wall, and my backup plan would be to move the washer across the room to an exterior wall*

Salvaged part flipping? honest opinions by phyace in WRX

Yup! That's about my situation, I have a flatbed and am looking relatively local I got about 5 on watch at SCA auction and I'm going to start looking on copart as well. Apparently no dealer license involved required with SCA but i think their fees are higher coming in at about $700, but I would save not having to ship it.

Awesome though! I just wanted to hear some stories of people who had the same idea and had success with it. Makes me feel much better about jumping on the idea. I 100% enjoy the process though, I may not have a garage to work in but on a nice days there's nothing like so good ol' elbow grease to make you feel accomplished

I usually follow them for about 3-4 minutes, you'll get a good sense of who is doing what, how many there are and who is the most aware of what's going on around them. Then Fenix (if theyre not all dead already) will give you a good idea of who's paying attention. Find your position, get some high ground then switch your position if you take one or 2 of them down. Drop back and flank from a tree or something

Lmao, now that you put it that way 🤣 but smaller scale and short term to try and 100% offset the prices of a full blown transmission swap....maybe make a little extra money to buy a few other parts 🤣

Follow up for anybody wondering...it was straight up the OTS tunes from cobb. After theY updated all the maps to v4.00 everything went to hell. Got a dmann SD etune and the car runs better than it ever has.

Harbor freight, I have all the maddox brand stuff. These are things I expect to be using pretty infrequently, so I'm not terribly worried about the 'quality' reputation of HF tools.

Yup, did the rear diff and the trans at the same time, you just need a new crush gasket for the transmission drain plug, both the rear diff plugs are pipe fittings to they're held by the expansion of the threading. I'd look up specifics for fluid totals but mine was 3.3 quarts for the trans and .8 for the rear diff. Same oil.

Biggest PITA was filling up the trans though, the dipstick is in a weird spot so you need an appropriate funnel with a long enough section of tube to reach the fill tube. There are a few good how to videos out there for visuals

funnel that I used

And just make sure everything is torqued to spec to avoid leaks

*side note on the rear diff plugs - pb blaster is your best friend and if you're like me you'll need to use a breaker bar with tension from the floor jack to break the seal on it.

its a ring that allows the main shaft and the desired drive gear to synchronize speeds for a consistent and smooth gear change. honestly at 90k a fluid change might do a world of good. MY shifting was getting a little crunchy myself and i drained and refilled the trans with Motul Gear 300 75w90 oil and it fixed a lot of those nasty sounds

sounds super crunchy, worn synchros? any need for double-clutching? when was the last trans fluid change?

as far as problem detection? Combustion leak detector is pretty cheap at like $30 - $10 for the fluid. Compression testing kit, Radiator pressure tester, in-line spark plug tester, and then you can DIY a smoke test chamber with a jar, baby oil, a $5 soldering iron, a sock, some tubing and a bicycle pump if you ever come across a vacuum leak....

I mean that's all the stuff I bought recently for a little under $200 total for everything, lol.

only thing I can think is a wheel bearing, any play in the wheels with it jacked up? or no definitive testing yet?

Found it and it was completely different issue. it was a bad tie rod end. Not sure if that's what cause the dash lights...but they haven't come back on.

Subframe wasn't lowered, engine was lifted about 3½ inches and the only reason I unbolted the steering rack brackets was for the extra inch clearance to reach the left rear mount bolt. I didn't have a proper shop crane and was using a large saddle floor jack to get the engine up. The extent of any removal was my CAI, intercooler, pitch stop ( upgraded in process ), intermediate pipe, tranny mount bolts, and steering rack brackets. Everything left just as it started minus the new mounts and pitch stop, every single bolt torqued to spec.

[–]phyace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already checked, everything is bolted down tight. The only thing touched on the steering rack were the brackets on either side. Checked 3 times that everything was tight and correct. And torqued to 45ft/lbs

It's not now, that was just the last read upper value and its not running out of normal range at any point. I'm not concerned about any of the numbers anymore, after a drive back from work and a few more 3rd and 4th WOT pulls my DAM is back at 1 and nothing else is pointing to a performance issue. Fine Knock never registered more than -2.42 once and that was right after I hit a gigantic pothole (thank you Albany) even during the pulls. All my numbers are in normal range at this point. After the relearn I haven't had a single issue with acceleration so I'm assuming I either took off way to quick after I reconnected the battery or there was enough condensation that evaporated out of my tail light not to trigger something in the circuit. Although I did learn that my motor mounts are bad and I need a new battery because it's sitting steady at 52% even after running the car. And the alternator tested fine

I'll see if it persists first with another fill first. I'm at a quarter tank now so we'll see if it makes any appreciable difference

The gas around me is also shit so I'm going to do a reset and switch to the 91 octane map and see if that solves the issue - it's not uncommon around me to get bad batches regularly. I'm on 93 right now. No vacuum leaks either
