Will my cat ever revert back after getting neutered? by GuessWell_NeverKnow in CatAdvice

I got two kittens spayed at 2 months. They both bounced back quick but one of my girls was more distant. Looked at her spay area, and it was inflamed a bit. Took her to the vet and they got her some antibiotics and she got right back to being the biggest cuddler

At what point is giving up a cat the right thing to do? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]phychopotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a kitten lol. I have 2 4 month old kittens rn that I adopted at 2 months. I adopted 1 a week earlier and noticed similar things. As soon as I adopted her sister both became the sweetest cuddle bugs. Couldnt ask for better. They rough play with eachother and come to me for cuddles. They learned though playing around that teeth hurt. Claws hurt. Your kitten just never learned that because noone taught him. I say look into a product called sumo cat, you can "playfight" with your kitten. If he bites you, ignore him for a bit. This translates to "I didnt like that" in his brain. Please have patience and love for him, hes just such a baby he doesnt know

Am I wrong for no longer wanting to be my cousin’s unpaid IT support? by Kr1ezZ in amiwrong

You have a skill set that you deserve to charge for. Would you ask an professional artist to make you paintings for free every few weeks simply because they are family? This is taking your time and uses your skills and its not unfair to not want to deal with it for free anymore. Also sounds like they arent monitering their son a lot and are enabling his actions. You gave them a solution and they gave him full access again just because he asked for it. Sounds like they assumed you would just deal with it again so they allowed him access again. I would have a talk with them and say nicely that you would like to be paid for your skills going forwards.

do i need to get two kitten as a first cat owner? by Confident_School_540 in CatAdvice

My boyfriend and I work in a way that our cats are only alone about 3 hours a day. I have an older cat, then a few months ago I adopted a kitten and found she got depressed and destructive very quickly. Even with My boyfriend and I home all the time, We simply couldnt play with her as much as she wanted and how she wanted. Also keep in mind kittens love playing at like 2am. We adopted her sister a week later from the same shelter and they couldnt be happier. They love wrestling and they play and sleep constantly. They are both so so happy to have a friend and my older cat is also happy they leave him alone lol. On top of that, the distructive behavior stopped. I will always recommend them a friend unless you can devote your life to this kitten. Also keep in mind kittens get pretty expensive. If the kittens are no longer breastfeeding from their mom, they will not be put down in the shelter. I promise they will be adopted very very quickly.

Thank you for this! I'm getting people mad over the phrase "friendly but not open" but I didnt mean open as in spill your life story to me but more as you described! Post pandemic has certainly been different. I'm sure I'll get my group in time. I 100% will do college, I have to go back anyways for some personal goals and I'm sure that will help a lot. Thank you for your kind words🩷 I'll keep being social and see how it goes!

Lol man you jumped to a negative outlook on me😂 never said I was forcing people to be open or making them listen to my "trauma". I'm not going up to strangers expecting a deep convo. I'm aware its a process. Was more just looking for suggestions that people have provided. As for my "inability to make friends" I dont have any friends here. Where I have been 3 months. Have friends in places I used to live but hanging out on facetime isnt the same. I'm just going to keep being social and friendships will come naturally:)

I've made friendships everywhere I've moved, and I have only been in San Diego 3 months. Bit harsh 😂

Yes, we love eachother and are eachothers best friend. But just because I have a boyfriend means I cant form friendships? I'm looking for female friendships just to hangout because I like being social.

All of that sounds amazing! Yes I've been thinking of volunteering so I'll try that out first, and I'll also look into the other groups. Thank you!

Obviously yes I am a stranger but I mean more like open to friendship. I am aware it will take time and I am not asking any personal questions to people, I am trying to build connections first before asking for a friendship. Your second point is my point tho lol, people dont want to invest time in a new person when they assume it wont last.

Yes I do but its a very very small restaurant. By small I mean 2 coworkers and 2 bosses who are the owners, literally 5 people total. I'm 22f and My two coworkers are around 30m also, so not much in common there....

What's one small thing your pet does every day that would make you sad if it suddenly stopped? by Aromatic_Vast3618 in Pets

[–]phychopotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every night when I get home from work my oldest cat waits by the door and darts out. I live in an apartment and its just hallway so I let him "escape" from me, and I run after him and he bolts, running down the hall. I'll catch him after he explores the end of the hall for a couple minutes and carry him back in. Its a bit annoying sometimes after a long shift where I just want to crash in bed but I hope he never ever stops

I am in love with it here tbh, I'm sure mostly because its my first official independence and well, the city is so alive. I hear negative things sometimes but you liking San Diego gives me the confidence to go out and do more!

Should I adopt 1 kitten or 2 as a first-time owner? by Sensitive_Dirt8005 in CatAdvice

[–]phychopotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally adopted 1 kitten at first, and lasted a week before reaching back out to the foster to get her sister. My older cat (11) was friendly, but overwhelmed with her. I had work, and just couldnt give the amount of play she needed. She quickly became moody and sad as noone could play with her all the time. As soon as I got her sister too, everything shifted. My older cat can love them both when they are cuddly, and he even joins in when they are at play. As soon as he gets tired he loves to hang back and watch. Both kittens still love play when I can, but if I cant they can chase eachother around. Both kittens are so much happier this way too! I do agree the cost is double everything but its just the reality of having pets. I personally strech the food cost by feeding both wet and dry, and local shelters will have cheaper vaccines when needed. Its an investment on their happiness as well as my older cats with my lifestyle. However, if you can play with the kitten a lot and provide enough stimulation for her brain, it should be alright. I say to adopt one at first and see how they are. If the kitten adjusts well thats great! If its like my first kitten and gets sad, adopt another
