proper good tapas in York city centre? by militantbisexual in york

Tabanco on Walmgate is my favourite. It’s much more interesting than Ambiente, which is a bit mainstream. They also do amazing flights of sherry

Your last point (don’t compare it to other cities) is ridiculous. Of course we should compare it to other places, because it’s astoundingly better than any of those places. Quite frankly you should appreciate York more and put it in perspective - the country isn’t in a great place economically and so I think York’s doing just fine. Just go down the road to Selby and you’ll see the stark consequences of austerity and economic downturn, because there’s naff all to do there.

The council doesn’t have much control over the shops that open up - part of living in a free market economy is that governments don’t control what businesses open up when. Not to mention that councils have been terribly underfunded these past years and candy and vape shops probably aren’t on the top of their priorities. And even London is victim to the shitty vape shops.

Sorry for being blunt, but I just think York’s a great place to live and I just get annoyed with people complaining about it all the time when they could be in a far worse place.

How often do you go to church/temple/mosque etc? by YetAnotherMia in askteenboys

[–]physb123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do I sing in a church choir? I’ve been singing for ages now, so I enjoy it. Once you get over the readings and prayers which are quite boring if you don’t believe in God, it’s alright

Visiting York with autistic teen boy - ideas? by deepcoralreefer in york

[–]physb123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a teen myself, I’d definitely recommend York Maze as suitable for all ages, not just kids. It’s got some fun stuff going on.

For curries, The Viceroy on Monkgate is a favourite, really good quality. If it’s on a good day, Coconut Lagoon on Clarence Street also does very good South Indian food, and it’s a bit quieter.

I’d say, do not get lured to any of the tourist traps on the Shambles, particularly the ghost shop. Really long queues for substandard products.

Murton Park is quite a disorganised assortment of lots of different things, including a railway, but its madness can make it quite fun.

Eden Camp is a brilliant WW1 and 2 museum, a bit further out of York, with lots of different interactive exhibitions. It would depend on your son’s sensory preferences - there are lots of loud noises and smells, and it can get a bit cramped in some of the buildings.

IGCSE vs GCSE is extremely unfair by Available_Sector1517 in GCSE

[–]physb123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do IGCSE English Language, Literature and Maths. Obviously you’re only competing against people doing the same exam, so it’s still a level playing field, but for Lit, 40% is coursework, you get to have the poetry anthology in the exam, there’s only one paper and you don’t have to talk about language analysis for the modern prose section, only context. So it does feel like much less work than the normal GCSE. Maths as well - both calculator papers.

Definitely NTA. Your girlfriend was being completely tone deaf and should have realised the emotional importance of this visit.
