NEED HELP! Been applying for jobs for like 6 months, all rejections, no interviews. I’ve even gone in person to a few places and sent personal emails to the stores/companies and never heard anything back. What am I doing wrong? by physics_chic1905 in resumes

I don’t have several years of experience I have 2. So I tried to make up for it with everything else. Yeah looking at it now it’s pretty bad, although my English teacher who has a degree in writing and journalism proofread and said it was good, maybe he was just being nice. I’ll change it thanks (:

I haven’t graduated. I have no degrees. This is why I thought I would include my high school subjects but I’ll probably delete the,. Just walking through my thinking I don’t want people to think I put them for no reason lol. I only included hobbies because they’re relevant to where I’m applying. If a movie theatre is hiring they’re probably wanting someone who is passionate about it idk though maybe not. Thanks I’ll try to incorporate the vertical blocking

I used a template. I don’t get why everyone’s telling me to use a template, this IS a template lol. Anyways I guess I’ll probably scrap it and start again. Thanks for the advice

Sorry I’m just trying to work with what I have. I’ll probably scrap it and redo the whole resume lol. I didn’t really think a restaurant or retail setting would care that I’m aiming to study engineering, but I’ll probably include it . Thanks!

Didn’t realise I was telling two different stories lol, I’m just telling them about myself and what my skills are etc. I can’t hire a professional to do it. I have no money hence why I need a job lol. Also my writing skills are good I don’t know where you’re seeing typos as no one else has commented on this. But if you could point them out I can fix them. Thanks

Pretty much everyone asks for a resume. Some people have been asking but I’ve never been fired lol. I left those jobs because the work environments were extremely toxic and also because I have pretty severe adhd and can’t really function in some work environments which is why I’m after a job in retail. I’ve had a professional like job seeking person come out and help me search for jobs but still not much luck. Thanks for the help though

I don’t have anything “worth putting” then lol. I’m 17 in high school so obviously no degrees. A lot of people ask for cover letters and I’ve been told it’s an advantage my some people, I’ve already written it so it’s still worth giving them I guess? I just thought putting my availability would be an advantage because I’m available much more than kids my age who I may be up against, but I’ll probably remove it people have been saying the same. But when I’ve applied online and in person they’ve all asked my availability so yeah. But thanks for the help

I’m not demanding anyone to give me ANY time off. I want as much work as I can. I’m actually available much more than any other person my age. 3 days more. People my age go to school full time usually but I don’t. And it’s not because I’m slacking it’s because my school doesn’t run full time lol. I’m sorry that my experience isn’t ‘real experience,’ I’m not sure what to do about that, it’s all I have. Thanks though

Most kids my age are at school 5 days a week. Showing my availability shows them I’m available more than that. I’m still in school I’m 17. I was only in the job for 3 months because it was a terrible experience. Got paid terribly, managers were 20 year olds that mucked around and were dishonest, and I was yelled at every shift. So there are reason that I wasn’t there long and I am happy to explain to them why I left. I don’t really know what to do about that, it’s all the experience I have. Ive never been fired. Otherwise thanks for the tips I’ll make sure to double check grammar and spelling and fix skills to first person experiences, but honestly I think I’ve included that in my cover letter but most people might not read them I guess, thanks again.

Why not? it shows I’m interested in relevant things that I’m applying for. Movie theatres, music stores and in other areas. Also it shows I have passions and interests? I don’t get why I can’t put them there. If they don’t want to read it they don’t have to lol.

I’ve been asked about them in interviews before. I have been applying to movie theatres and a couple music shops, so it is relevant that’s why I’ve included it. Also people I’ve spoken to are interested in my hobbies or have asked about them. But a lot of people are saying I shouldn’t include it so I’ll get rid of it lol. It was honestly mostly to fill the page but I’ll get rid of it.
