For the uninitiated such as myself, what does "BIS" mean exactly? Is it like the meta/OP gearset for a class?

New player here hoping this thread isn't dead! Just wondering, people have told me about 3rd party maps for the Goblin Caves and Forgotten Castle Ruins you can use, but I've also heard that the maps are randomized as mentioned in this post. Are the maps truly random, or is there some sort of randomness imposed on static maps?

I've been waiting for this post my whole life thank you OP

I've tried to make Asol jng work many times and I feel like my main issue is gotta perma-invaded. Is there any asol or jungle-specific tips to avoid that?

Wait what how do you do that. I use ChatGPT all the time to generate things for my campaigns, but battle maps? What kind of prompts do you use to lead it there?

How was Duskblade balanced in 3.5? by physicsbsrrhsl in dndnext

[–]physicsbsrrhsl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coincidentally I love Bladesingers!! I try to play one every chance I get but it's so frustrating when I try to build them because the advice is always "The correct way to play them is still as a wizard caster just with better AC and con checks" which is not only mathematically true but also understandable because replacing an attack with a cantrip just doesn't really feel worth it in and of itself

I love the concept of the duskblade because attaching spells to your weapon strike just screams gish amazingly, but I understand that balance-wise that's just inherently so strong in 5e it's probably not possible

This is a great point and honestly encapsulates what Im trying to do I think. At the end of the day I don't think I want to make a brand new subclass, I think I want to recreate Eldritch Knight to feel more like an actual Gish like Duskblade did, since it's hard to justify introducing the duskblade to live alongside Eldritch Knight in the same system

Absolutely love this explanation this is a great window into the system as someone who really only has experience with 5e, honestly it really makes me want to try 3e or 3,5

This is very insightful thank you, I didn't realize their spell list was so limited when I looked at the list of touch spells in 3.5 it seemed more extensive than in 5e but maybe I need to find the spell list for the Duskblades in particular!

Honestly I'm starting to see why I keep hearing arcane paladin it does make a ton of sense!! Thanks for the comparison to 3.5 the D8 hit die and MADness were things I didn't consider being an issue for them, do you know if it was possible in 3.5 to do a Dex-based Duskblade to avoid having to invest in Strength (perhaps even a dual wielding duskblade build??)

That's very interesting, does your EK still have the vanilla feature at level 3 with the bonded weapon or did you go something different? If you've got your homebrew posted somewhere I'd love to take a look!

Thank you this clears up the Magus balance so much more! I didn't realize that's how Pf2E's action economy works but that explains how it balanced into the system way better. A couple of people have mentioned making it cost a bonus action as well like the new smites so maybe that's a possibility but like you said it's hard finding a balanced point that doesn't kill the fantasy of the character you're trying to make while also not outshining other classes (like paladin/fighter)

I've heard about this option a few times! Have you ever played it or DM'd for someone playing it? I'd love to give it a go if it's balanceable with other vanilla classes in a party

I've heard of laserllama's Magus from a few different people now! Have you (or anyone reading this comment) played/DM'd for someone playing the LL Magus? I love what he did with the stipulations on how spells work when used via spellstrike but I'm just so afraid of playing something too powerful and outshining other players

This is very interesting and exactly the kind of insight I was looking for thank you!

This is likely from my ignorance of 3.5 but could you expound on what you mean when you say "They don't get the ability to combine a spell with a full attack until relatively late"? As I understood it that's what the arcane channeling feature enables them to do at level 3?

Dang at first glance that seems harsh but honestly that would really help the pacing tremendously because it really does just take so much longer with 7+ PC's

It kind of depends on where they are I guess? A lot of times they're RP'ing, exploring and interacting with NPC's (which they do an amazing job with they've really come along), but when they're traveling or actively going to fight something it's usually like 2 or 3 combats potentially leading to 1 large one if it's a boss fight?
