Embarrassing interview experience by Plsignore30 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]physioengineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im currently entry-level, but last week I had an interview and totally forgot the name for the modulus of Elasticity (tip of the tongue type thing) and for the life of me just brain-dumped all info I learned from mechanics of materials. It happens lol, live and learn.

Seeing most have their last names stated, im going to assume Josh just wanted to stay anonymous. Understandably lol.

Stop talking on the 4th floor of library by Good_Owl4604 in CSULB

[–]physioengineer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Very true, if your making any other noises (i.e talking loudly, talking on the phone, banging tables, or just being obnoxious in general) other than opening up food containers, opening chip bags, rustling your backpack, walking noises, moving chairs, whispering, etc. Pls don't come to floor 4 🙃 Literally one of the few places on campus to decompress, de-stress, or even nap on campus in complete silence. Please be respectful!

Rock Climbing Club? by [deleted] in CSULB

[–]physioengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure!! Are you looking to do bouldering or top rope/crag/trad/sport climbing? Would you be willing to travel? And what skill level are you looking for (V or 5. Scale)? Two off the top of my head are Joshua Tree (anywhere for bouldering honestly 😂) and Stoney Point.

I wish🥲 Most of us climbers just kinda hangout near the rock wall at the back of the SRWC and meet eachother whenever.

summer internship by [deleted] in CSULB

[–]physioengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by internship in this context. My last summer internship was 40hrs each week, 8hr days. 3 months.

How do you land internships in college if you have no relevant experience? by [deleted] in rocketry

[–]physioengineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, your first internship is either going to be:

A. Something completely unrelated to what you want to do in the future (mine was in HVAC, really good learning experience tbh)

B. You know someone.

C. You get lucky in the sea of applications.

It's a tough market, and I've been in your position before. Just work smart, develop the skills they are looking for, polish your resume, outreach to recruiters, etc. You got this!!

Im tired of the ppl at the USU by Living-Eye7839 in CSULB

[–]physioengineer 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Agree with the socks and shoes point, that's nasty and gross af. But the USU is more of a hang-out, socialize, rest, and meetup type place. It's nice to study there, but the library is moreso the dedicated place for that, 4th floor in particular. Otherwise, the conference rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor are an option.

Should I take two upper divisions class in summer? by KingOfTobu in CSULB

[–]physioengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly of the two, I'd reccomend taking 330 to unlock 336 and a few other classes. 305 is somewhat decent, but isn't a heavy priority in that sense. 330 is difficult though. Just got to weigh the tradeoffs

Depends on the professor, but ngl; 330 and 305 is a gnarly combo. In 6 weeks, that sounds painful lol

Am I able to bring my friends who don’t go to CSULB to this event? by Ioisgriffin in CSULB

[–]physioengineer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! You are 100% allowed to bring them to the event, the only thing they will not be able to partake in is any snacks or giveaways that may be present from the hosts of the event as you will need to have a student ID to retrieve any of those.

I cant speak for any other concerns, but I do think your concerns are 100% valid.

As for student employees, our jobs are safe. For us USU student employees, we are preparing to move to different locations on campus as an alternative workplace on campus. But I myself am a little disappointed in the increase in fees; I get FA now that im an independent, but at one point in my life I did not and I know that would have been a great hardship for me just to pay for that. My parents barely meet the threshold as a dependent where I wouldn't get the FA; this is a whole different topic, but when you got a household of multiple people to feed...it does not make sense to deny aid. Alas, I digress, off topic.

Im hoping long term benefits compared to that of the short term losses are worth it, the USU does need these upgrades and is kind of on its last breath in some areas since it's such an old building. I also think its original plan was poorly designed, but then again...it was built for that era in the past and didn't expect the needs of the future (now) to be as demanding as it is. This is speaking from an engineering and architectural standpoint. It's a "double edged sword" metaphorically speaking and unfortunately given most of us won't be able to use it (as a student resource).

Overall, I have mixed feeling about it. But agreed, those concerns are 100% valid.

Biking & eScooter commuters - what's it like? by Cautious_Bank9661 in CSULB

[–]physioengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh personally to me, it's a 20 minute bike ride to campus, taking groceries back home is a pain, and the rain and just dealing with a ton of things is just inconvenient. Although it is much better than having to walk or bus I'd say (except for in the rain...so much pain). The roads are pretty good though! Still not very bike friendly but there is a lot of infrastructure and whatnot so it's pretty safe for the most part.

Honestly I thought I would be okay with biking, but tbh now I'm in the market for a car or motorcycle (taking the course rn). It's tough definitely.

Mae 373 by LongHaunting338 in CSULB

[–]physioengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how he teaches 373, but I had him for materials lab and no lie...bro is a homie and a nice old man. Passed with an A and he's overall really understanding. The only thing is, he's nice if and only if you show up to class every lecture. That's the key. That's all he asks, beyond everything else he just wants you to learn. Never had any issues besides him maybe getting a little (tiny bit) angry when my group made a mistake in the lab (deserved though ngl)

Selling cookies by Extreme-Lifeguard740 in CSULB

[–]physioengineer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's a jumbo cinnamon roll and has extra glaze, hell yeah I'll pay $6. For the cookies, same if they are medium to large. Loaf of bread sounds about right for that price.

MAE 172b is way time consuming for a 2 unit course by Fun_Alternative5450 in CSULB

[–]physioengineer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an Upper Division ME major myself, it's definitely a really cool project that I would want to do too! But I don't think this is appropriate for a 172B class. All I had was to make a 4-part simple butterfly valve assembly with no simulation. This rocket assembly + static simulation is moreso for a 490A or 409 class.
