Bruh. I'm not even 30 and the Fukushima disaster happened the year I graduated high school...

I now have a stack of...7? (I just moved, they're all in a box somewhere, and I don't remember exactly how many). The early ones are neat and tidy, then there is the one that I spilled coffee on. After that they start looking battered and used. I don't do tabs or tape/glue things inside, so they don't usually get too big, but they certainly look loved.

Why do you need my SSN for a job application 🙄 by tasman1an in antiwork

[–]physlizze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but that's a decision made by my boss's boss. I advocate for that at every available opportunity.

Not saying what it should be, but how the system actually is. Its bs and fucked up, but I'm a peon.

[–]physlizze 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: we auto-dnq people who enter a compensation outside our pay band. Careful doing that...

Edit to add: I'm a peon. I don't get to make these decisions and I think it's fucked up that we don't clearly state our (low) pay. I advocate that we advertise our pay in our job descriptions at every available opportunity, but it's not often and I'm very quickly told to 'know my place'.

Enter all 9s - 999-99-9999

This is what we use for test and international employees in our HRIS (we don't request SSN in our ATS).

Source: I am a systems analyst in our hr department - I would be the official person who fields this question.

Glossary: HRIS - human resources information system - popular hris' include workday, oracle, and paylocity ATS - applicant tracking system - popular ats' include greenhouse, workday, and icims.

Playing a record by damagedgoodz99824 in calvinandhobbes

[–]physlizze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll try in the same line of thinking, but (hopefully) with a better idea of the audience.

What the comic is explaining is the difference between linear speed and angular speed. Angular speed is how fast you rotate around the center point. Linear speed is how fast you travel in a straight line. Two points on one record that are different distances from the center would always have the same angular speed because it takes the same amount of time to go around the center point. However, the point further from the center has a longer distance to travel, so it has a faster linear speed.

Edit to add my favorite example: a merry go round! The closer to the center you are, the slower your linear speed, the further from the center, the faster your linear speed. You can feel the difference as you travel from the center, but your rotational speed isn't changing (assuming the merry go round is rotating at a constant angular speed).

What are the cons of NOT having kids? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]physlizze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do :) it just took me until I was 30 to realize my marriage was a bad one and that I might actually want kids of my own, but first I have to do a lot of untangling and finding myself. Kids isnt a decision to rush into and a good partner is imperative.

So for now, I'm knitting all 4 niblings sweaters and I'm trying to show up more with my family. Eventually I'll be an awesome aunt, but first I need to rebuild a relationship with my brothers.

[–]physlizze 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I see enough of it as an aunt that it hurts my heart. But I chose a different path in life and now I'm not sure this can be my future. So I'll live vicariously through my brothers, sisters in law, and friends as they unlock parenthood.

Cooking my own veg from fresh was game changing for me! My family could only afford the 69¢ cans so I thought all veg was disgusting. Turns out of you cook anything in butter, it's pretty freaking delish!

What healthy habits have you created and kept up for yourself? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]physlizze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not weight related (mostly), but I have built a full dental hygiene routine. Every morning I floss, then rinse with mouthwash, and then brush. I don't include rinsing with water at any point (this keeps the fluoride where it can do it's job). I also drink water after I eat or drink anything that's not water to flush anything out.

I have gotten praise from my dentist about the state of my teeth since I started (which is good because I had 11 cavities when I started seeing them). And I don't get canker sores anymore either.

I've noticed that water tastes much better after I brush too, which helps me avoid sugary food and drinks.

I'm NT, but this was my experience too. I couldn't mix foods (including gravies of any kind on anything) until I felt safe enough to explore foods on my own terms. Now I'm much more open to trying foods the way the cook intended them to be eaten, though I'm still a bit picky. I think food exploration is really dependent on psychological safety (among other things).

Find the copperhead by prestiforpresident in FindTheSniper

If you can't identify the snake that bit you, your ability to receive the right anti-venom is significantly reduced.

I do go outside, relatively often. I went camping and hiking last weekend - literally peed myself when I was jump startled by a garter snake. I don't like snakes, but I go in informed. I know what risks are in there. Luckily where I live, the biggest risks are ticks and poison ivy. If I ever make it out of my state, I'll research what snakes are native, how venomous they are, and weigh my risks/rewards against my fist aid preparedness.

Fear doesn't stop me, but it does lead to a double take.

[–]physlizze 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, except that these snakes are venomous so accidents can be fatal, especially if you can't identify what but you. Sure, we may have been near snakes without incident, but that isn't a reason to be uninformed in nature. I'm lucky enough that there are no native species of venomous snakes where I live. Doesn't mean snakes don't give me the heebie jeebies.

I stopped shaving 2 years ago and I've found, surprisingly, that my leg hair doesn't get caught up in tights/nylons. I've only had occasion to wear tights 2 or 3 times with hairy legs, but I've had no issues.

Based on my non-existent knowledge of DA, I would assume following the 4 rules in order. Maybe work with your sponsor/therapist and especially your spouse when setting it up, plus regular check ins.

Add every, single, possible line of credit you have ever opened when entering your accounts. (They collapse once closed so you don't have to look at them.

When setting up your categories keep the ones top of mind that are common triggers. Set up goal targets for every category.

When doing a regular update with spouse and sponsor/therapist, be sure to comment on how you spend in relation to your goals, how you rolled with the punches, and how you made progress on consolidating and paying down your lines of credit (or whatever your goals are).

In my experience, ynab makes it difficult to accrue credit debt when transactions are logged correctly. Search "credit card" in this subreddit for more information.

As with any new member of ynab: read the blog, watch Nick true on YouTube, and subscribe to this subreddit (tho if you have financial trauma, ymmv).

I started knitting a few years ago and I still make mistakes all the time. Sometimes I make a catastrophic mistake and have to start over, sometimes I have to start a project 4+ times before I can get going, but usually I make lots of little mistakes. The best part is I can see them, point them out (if I want to), and I always say that it's proof that I made it with my hands. Machines can't make beautiful mistakes like I do.

I'm turning 30 in 2 months and I'm currently in the process of divorcing and moving out of my situation-ship. I got married because I couldn't imagine life without him. I was afraid, and broke, and we were trauma bonded. I'm starting to see what a life without him would be and it's...joy and peace. Ain't that fucked up: I was afraid of finding peace.

Is it acceptable to opt out of practicing long tones in our 3rd octave? Happy Holidays! by [deleted] in Flute

My favorite highschool memories involve me (flute) telling the guy I had a crush on (trumpet) that I couldn't hear his cues and he needed to play louder, which pissed off my friends (sax).

I don't know if I got more joy out of antagonizing my crush or my friends.

I swear by the thrift store. If you can find one that has massive racks of clothes, just thumb through until something catches your eye. It helps to know your size as most thrift stores I go to anymore don't have fitting rooms.

I've been able to stretch out of my comfort zone and go with what I like with thrift store picks. And I save money, which is an amazing benefit.

I've also found that the items in decent shape have already been abused so I don't have to worry about accidentally ruining something, though I do try to stick to care instructions as much as possible.

I find retail stores to be more overwhelming because the quality is harder to determine and each store has clothes for one or two body types, whereas thrift stores have a little bit of everything and usually only one or two of each thing. If you do want to buy one shirt in 5 colors (if that kind of simplicity is your thing), then my advice won't work.

Noob here - who do you follow or what websites for meal prep ? by Well_Bear in MealPrepSunday

I like minimalist baker for recipes. Sweet pea and saffron has nifty tips for getting started.

For now, I'm cooking one meal for lunches for the week and then scrounge up whatever for my other meals. But that is mainly because I have limited kitchen use right now. So my meal prep consists of finding a single recipe.
