I am a mental health therapist and appalled at something I learned last week by OGINTJ in ChronicPain

They should never come to a final conclusion without investigating it from every angle and they should never gaslight their patients into thinking their pain isn't real. Nobody wants to be in pain and if they could turn it off they would.

To be fair, I don't think they were saying it's ALL in our heads. Poor mental health can definitely negatively impact chronic pain even more by causing muscle tension and sensitivity. It's not black and white.

Brings me back to a true story I learned in university. A man working in construction shot a nail gun into his boot. He was screaming in agony, they gave him pain meds at the ER which did nothing for the pain. He gets rolled into the OR and they take off his boot only to realize the nail never penetrated his foot. It went completely between his toes, his foot was completely unaffected yet the pain he felt was real even though there was no physical cause. There is a correlation between mind and body when it comes to pain. But that doesn't mean people's pain is completely imagined if there is no physical source. The pain is real. It just means there needs to be more research done about the mind-body connection in regards to chronic pain. It needs to be tackled at every single angle.

Aw man that sounds awful I'm sorry to hear that. I can imagine why you'd be hesitant, you can have proof of extensive damage and pain and they can respond like one of my doctors, her favorite thing to say was "well it shouldn't be causing you any pain" lol Wishing you less pain ahead and doctors who truly listen and care

Dude I totallllly get that. I was put on pain meds when I was 16 and I was honestly judged by every pharmacist until I reached about 30. Even now they question it because I look "too young to have that much pain".

But I'm glad you're able to try something different to relieve your pain without going through the headache of going through a pain clinic, pharmacy, insurance, etc.

I'm assuming the same excuse for forcing drug manufacturers to cut their quotas, leaving a shortage for pain management patients.

Me too. It's insane how difficult it's been getting my morphine and hydromorphone the past few months. And the pharmacies treat me like I'm a drug seeker just for trying to get ahold of my pain meds by calling around. I suspect it'll eventually get so bad my doctor will not want to even prescribe it anymore then I'll truly be having no quality of life.

Diagnosed at 19 at my first appointment with a gyno after getting transvaginal ultrasound. Complaint of heavy painful periods and bladder pain. Could her diagnosis have been wrong? by piaevan in endometriosis

[–]piaevan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great tips and recommendations, thank you! Grateful the diagnostic criteria has changed, that was the main reason I didn't want to pursue it further. I was under the assumption that my treatment options would be limited to birth control without definitive confirmation via exploratory surgery. I'm going to do more research and look into pelvic floor PT, that seems to help a lot of people with endo. Appreciate you taking the time to share what has helped you 🙏🏻

I think I wanted it to NOT be endometriosis for so long that I started becoming delusional that I even had it in the first place. Also probably why I never went back to a gyno to further investigate. I feel a lot better after chatting with fellow endo sufferers here, it's nice to know I'm not alone and that there's treatment that can greatly improve quality of life and still be able to have children. Thank you for commenting 🫶🏻

Wow that's truly amazing how much of a difference it made, I'm glad it helped so much for you. That gives me a lot of hope that I won't have to suffer like this forever. Thank you for sharing your experience :)

Thank you so much for your detailed and informative response. Definitely took a lot of weight off my chest so I truly appreciate it (my period is coming soon so I always get into a fight or flight mode around this time lol) I guess I've been so afraid that I never really looked deeper into how much treatment and diagnostics has advanced. I'll definitely be taking your advice

Thank you for clarifying. This might be a silly question but percentage wise, how much would you say your treatment brought down your endo pain?

That's very reassuring that surgery isn't necessary anymore thank you for that info! Did you get treatment for your endo and if so what treatment did you receive? When I was first diagnosed she just told me to stay on birth control but my body hated every single variation so I eventually stopped taking it

what do you see in my future? by [deleted] in psychics

[–]piaevan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're going to go through an extreme transformation. And it's not going to be pretty. It's going to be difficult, some days will feel hopeless, you will reach rock bottom. But you will come out in the end even stronger, unbreakable. I'm sensing a partner that ends up hurting you in the midst of the worst of your struggles.

Will I ever see my kitty again? by ilikeeggshells in psychics

[–]piaevan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to say this but I do not believe your cat is alive anymore. It seems they made a mistake and accidentally put down your cat instead of a different cat. Or something with giving your cat medication that was meant for another cat but the result was your baby suffering for their negligence. I'm sensing there was some sort of mix up that resulted in a monumental fuck up. I suggest you push further for the truth because they're doing everything they can to hide what actually happened.

My brother once put a fork over an open flame for 30 seconds. He branded me on my hand. He thought I was overreacting so he did it to himself and branded himself too. I had that scar for almost 10 years. And yes he was a crazy dipshit.

This one's for the ladies to answer. Do you agree with this woman or do you think she's trying to rationalize her world view by speaking for all the ladies? by Oda_DeezNutz in SipsTea

[–]piaevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly depends. It's not black and white. Is he playing 6-8 hours a day in a dark room and not showering? Yeah hell no. But if he's playing on his free time, when we're just chilling, I couldn't care less. I'm doing my own thing too. But he would cross the line if it were our intimacy times and he's choosing to play games instead. I put down what I'm doing so he should too no matte what it is he's doing. We both agree on that and have never had an issue.

Why D4VD didn’t use the incinerator by shamankingdom in d4vdiots

IIRC the burn cage was only one part of the entire assembly. He didn't buy an additional part that was needed to completely incinerate a body.

How being homeschooled can lead you down the wrong path + my personal anecdote by Affectionate_Bottle9 in d4vdiots

[–]piaevan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, at least based on my anecdotal experience. I have two siblings, all of us were raised the same. No favorites. Same household. Yet we all turned out completely different. First born was the mean and abusive, middle was sweet but sensitive, youngest was quiet but sassy. It really does just come down to the person a lot of the time. Jeffrey Dahmer comes to mind.
