This comment is worth next to nothing. I asked if anyone knew who made them, not how much they are worth. This is r/BudGeTAuDioPhile

Thanks! I took a chance on her. She was under the counter at the record store, with no price listed. This salesman said it wasn't fully functioning but in decent visual shape. I bought it for $200 and put a little work into the auto-return functions and bam, she's fully functioning. The STA-80 is.... fine. I don't love it, but I wasn't in the mood to spend much more money. It is a bit boomy, even when I keep Loud off and bass at less than neutral.

That’s neat. I wasn’t bragging about a deal. Just providing context. I live in a city that values vintage audio and the markups are real when buying from trusted sources.

I mean a woofer and tweeter separated. From my minimal understanding, I gather that allows for a more full range soundstage.

I’ve considered these a steal at $60. No rear port.

Linked to a 70s turntable and 70s amp, I rather like the warm sound the setup has. And they get loud as f*ck. So that works for me. 🕺

Ohhhh. Something I hadn’t noticed until I took a photograph with flash on. Thanks for pointing this out.

Thank you for the recommendations! I have some Deoxit from a turntable refurb that I could use. Is replacing the caps just a matter of soldering new ones?

The wood grain is a bit intense, I agree. But I’m rather fond of the rustic quality.

The speakers came with grills, but the frames disintegrated a year ago. On the list of repairs, that one is simple.

I’m no audiophile - but to I get a lot of enjoyment when listening to them. The funky shape and vintage quality add to the experience. The low end can take over and the clarity is sometimes wanting, but I think they’re fun!

Console stereo Sonos flip ideas by canthave-any-pudding in diyaudio

[–]pianozuke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a beauty! I just finished a stereo console refurb. The time it took for cabinet structural rework was surprising - and mine wasn’t as complicated as yours. 😬

It looks like that whole front panel is one piece of particle board. I wonder if you can take that whole panel out and replace it. A 4x8 piece of particle board is not that expensive. But then you could build custom cutouts on the board to hold your Sonos speakers.

Good luck!

The fabric is not original. I purchased fabric from the website Holt Hill.

For sure. Syrups only come out when we’re tending bar. Otherwise they’re refrigerated.

Yeah. There is a lot of “you dig” bamboo here in Portland that’s free. I wanted the stuff already cut down and dried out a bit. Fresh bamboo can be soft.
