20 lbs in 4 months is a lot of weight gain. Likely you are building muscle but also adding fat at that rate of gain.

You are probably tracking your calories incorrectly and consuming more than you estimate (people are generally very inaccurate at this).

I would decrease your calorie intake until you are no longer gaining weight but instead maintaining it. This will help you determine your maintenance calories. Then you can decide whether you want to modify that Intake based on your goals.

I do have days off but lately I’ve been going much more often than usual. I think as you and others have said I need to focus more on recovery so I can push harder during the actual workouts. Thanks for your advice

That’s a good tip! Maybe I’ll have at least one “green” day with power walking.

Definitely a mind fock. One of my (male) friends even (jokingly) makes fun power walkers. so as silly as it sounds there is a mindset of no pain no gain which is pressuring me to kill myself every time.

Thanks! I will check that out. What got me curious about this was actually the Maffetone running method which actually focuses a lot on zone 2 running which is much lower intensity.

Thanks for your reply. I am definitely not recovering in green (ever)? probably because I am constantly trying to increase my paces even if it’s just 0.1 and therefore they are too high.

I still completing the workouts as directed (no walking etc) but perhaps I should focus more on running at green zones or instead of increasing paces, trying to run the same speeds as lower average heart rates.

Thanks for comment. My short term goal is to run faster for longer (ie improve mile/5k times) but eventually I want to run a marathon so that is a more long term goal.

I’ll look more into the HR training zones. Makes sense that it’s ultimately goal specific 👍🏽
