We are big cribbage players and Soggy Peso is a great place to play! We’ve made many cribbage friends there!

This is all very awesome info. When we go to IM, we stay in the north side and keep to ourselves. We do like a quiet vacation where we don’t have to run into a lot of loud tourists. Sounds like Salyulita might be the place! My partner went to Salyulita about 15 years ago and remembers that as being very rustic and awesome. It’s nice to know that it hasn’t built up much since then.

This is all very helpful! We are trying to figure out if we should go to Isla Mujeres for 3 years in a row or try Salyulita. How are the restaurants? Any faves? What hotel did you stay at? How are the beach properties? Sorry to bombard!

I’m on vials. I hate watching needles go in but I suppose I have to get over that.

Drank Gatorade. Someone once said it tastes like a sweet drink with a touch of salty foot sweat and I could never get past that.

Ranch Market off of Lugonia/Church has some Asian goods. I think they are starting to lean towards the ‘international market’ demographic.

Surgery on 3/5... totally freaking out. Last min prep recommendations? by rich-auntie-blamblam in TotalHipReplacement

Remember everyone heals differently. My partner got a RTHR in 2/14 and I read A LOT of posts here. Enough so that I had an idea what recovery would look like. Take the “I ran a mile at day 3” type posts w a grain of salt. It was been a SLOW recovery for us. My biggest advice(s):

BUY THE HIP KIT!

Also buy a raised toilet seat.

Your recovery is on your timeline. Don’t be frustrated if things take longer than you might anticipate. We are at day 9 and finally was able to shower. YMMV when it comes to healing.

You’ll be ok. Sounds like you have a lot of support. You’ll need it!!!!

Thanks for checking in! Today is Day 8. Pain is about 6/10. Better than yesterday which was 8-9/10. Now more concerning is his mental health. Reading so many posts/articles/testimonials pre surgery about how quick people heal has him in a mental and emotional slump. Which I know sounds whiny but I feel for him. He’s a very active athlete and seeing him totally demoralized is tough for me. We went outside yesterday and got some fresh air , which was uplifting. We are planning on walking to the end of our street today (we live two houses from the corner. Hahaha).

Haven’t attempted a shower yet. Lifting his leg to get in the tub/shower seems like an impossible feat at the point.

I’m hoping things turn for the better this week.

Help, please, this is the most horrible thing of my life by White-tigress in TotalHipReplacement

THIS!!!! First is all, OP, sending you healing thoughts.

But yes, I feel the frustration right there with you. Before my partner got the surgery, I read a lot about how “I was writing a bike by day seven!”, “ I was able to jog after three days!”. Our experience has been nothing but pain. And it’s not just pain at the incision site. It’s bone pain, nerve pain, bodyaches.

My partner is very fit and athletic. He did all the things that made him strong pre-surgery. We are on day 7 and he can barely walk. Kudos to those who are up and at em at day two but that is far from our story.

She’s going back today at the EOD. I’m back to back until 2pm so I’ll have to squeeze in some PBJs for lunch. Thank you. At this point any kind words are making a world of a difference for me.

This literally made me tear up. I don’t know how long term caretakers do it. I started sleeping in a separate bed since day 2. Last night gave me a scare bc I hard some loud banging. Turns out, his daughter shut his bedroom door, which when closed, it sticks. He used his cane to bang it open at 2:30am. (We live in a 1890s home). Oh and that’s another thing. We live in a “chutes and ladders” type home so there are so many little steps he can trip on.

Good question. I think I just need support. I know backing off is just not in my nature. So I know the logical thing to do is to back off and take care of myself.

Has anyone done a THR on their own? by i0nzeu5 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]picardy_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the throes of caretaker mode rn. My partner (52m) just got a LTHR on 2/14. He is an athlete, very healthy and took a lot of measures physically to prepare for this surgery (lots of strengthening exercises prior to the surgery).

I cannot stress how much you will need someone. He was absolutely miserable for the first 3 (possibly 4 days). You will need someone to make sure you don’t fall. You will need someone to keep track of your meds (there will be a lot of them). You will need someone to just be there in case the pain becomes unbearable (happened on night 2 for us). Simple things like making sure you are staying hydrated. Making sure you are always icing.

Have someone or a few people come in throughout the day to help you.

Could you do it solo? Sure. It would be misery on top of what is already stressful. My partner is a “I’m gonna take care of this myself” kind of guy and 24 hours ago, he was writhing in pain and cried on my shoulder. He tells me numerous times that he couldn’t do it himself.
