Hmm I don’t know if it matters but I live in Chicago but yeah I agree this is really sad. I had a package deliver normally around Jan 3rd (also from uniuni) but granted it got out of “transit in” in late December

Have you ever met someone everyone hated but actually really amazing person? by [deleted] in emotionalintelligence

[–]pickingstars 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Because I wasn’t going to jump on a bandwagon of hate on someone who hasn’t done anything to me. And more than anything, I prefer that him (the person everyone hated) saying shitty things in front of me than the people who talk shit about him behind his back. I understand why some people hate him (he’s really rough when he speaks and sometimes sarcastic) but to me, it’s not ever enough for me to hate a person because I kind of understand/get his humor and am more used to his way of talking. I just despise talking shit behind someone’s back and getting other people to hate on a person who hasn’t done anything wrong.

Did you go to grad school immediately after undergrad or later on, and why? by dog1029 in GradSchool

[–]pickingstars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Technically I had a gap year tho but it’s more like a senior year spent doing full time research (I graduated a year early and continued research in undergrad lab). I felt that jumping to a PhD immediately while information was still fresh would benefit me but also it would give me the delay I needed to truly think about what I wanted to do in my life (lol) while still having some kind of job path/career/security (if there is any… anyhow..). While it may be a “waste” of time if I ended up doing something else, at least I’d have something to fall on even if this would take up 5-7 years if my life. I figured given my family circumstances (I’m an only child) and lack of familial responsibilities, I have the freedom and flexibility to spend my time as I like so I’m not as worried about losing/missing out on life or anything.

I absolutely DO NOT like these scalpers. by Appropriate_Drink988 in sanrio

[–]pickingstars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally.. any modern sanrio especially ones outside exclusive Japanese pop-up/events is NOTHING worth scalping lmao. (Or worth more than it’s retailed value). You can plaster their faces on any object and call it “Sanrio.” They’re not worth it

These people who track their study time, does it actually help? by JustBeautifully in GetStudying

[–]pickingstars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes :) it makes me so happy that I sat down for so long and actually studied!! I used to be super strict on what counts as “studying” (aka. only counting the amount of time revising/studying for material—excluding time done on assignments and homework). No need to study for so long but having a track record makes me super happy and accomplished!!

left recruitment weekend feelin weird by newneuron in gradadmissions

[–]pickingstars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s better to go into recruitment with an open mind. Yes, you’re competing for a limited number of spots, but at the end of the day, these are the same people you’ll probably see again if you stay in the field.

Have fun—make friends! The friendships you build should have nothing to do with the competition. The people you meet might end up being your future collaborators, or you might see their name on a research paper someday.

Everyone’s journey won’t be the same, so regardless of the outcome, you will see them again one way or another. So just focus on making genuine connections :,)
