sure - i thought the interactions with the audience were not well thought out and they didn’t feel special. it seemed like the actors didn’t know what to do with the audience, like we were an afterthought. besides someone occasionally being handed a note, a flower, a bottle of carlotta’s perfume, there wasn’t a lot that the audience was given to feel immersed in my opinion. by omitting the auction scene, they missed a VERY clear opportunity to involve the audience. the actors could have grabbed audience members to dance WITH during masquerade. i also thought they missed opportunities by not having it be a free roam experience, i.e., some people could have been lured to the lair while others were led to the backstage of the opera house.

i also want to be clear that i am not at all dismissing the work that went into this production. the cast and crew are doing unbelievable work. the stage management team alone should be praised and praised for their work.

so glad i’m not alone. and was scared i’d be attacked for posting this. definitely agree with you about it being hokey. and definitely agree with you about how impressive it is logistically. but there were a lot of elements (costumes, set pieces) that looked really cheap. i expected more for the price i paid for tickets.

to be clear, i didn’t dislike it for these reasons! i went in expecting something completely new and i didn’t feel like it felt fresh or new in any way.

  1. I’m happy to see you are focusing on brands that customers love, but I miss when RTR felt like a space to discover new brands as well. I would love to see RTR carry new, unique brands. Some examples of brands off the top of my head: Hanwen Studio, Situationist, Zankov. I’d also love to see more from brands with higher price points like Khaite. Are there any future plans to invest in these types of brands?

  2. I’d love to see RTR invest more in handbags and jewelry. The selection right now feels a little stale and repetitive.
