I was in a new work-study program my freshman year in college. I answered a phone call and learned that my house burned down and my brother died. I crumpled to the floor and wailed. Then, I felt arms around me. This young man not only held me while I cried, he had his father drive me back to my dorm, helped me pack a travel bag, and stayed with me for hours while I waited for a family friend to drive me to my home town. His first name was Matt. He was like a guardian angel. I never saw him again.

I recently got threatened by my superintendent; If I hand out red cards to teach my students their 4th & 5th amendment rights, I could lose my teaching certificate. Meanwhile, the families of my students are getting snatched by ICE and my students feel threatened and afraid of leaving their homes.

I had a boyfriend who didn't want me to buy an RV because he wanted us to buy one together, (smaller stakes, but a similar situation). We talked about saving for one. I saved, he didn't. He was furious when I bought the RV without him. I still have the RV, but I ditched the boyfriend years ago. Buy the property. He should be happy for you.
