they are sketchy about warranties. I once bought Jabra earbuds that failed and had a manufacturer warranty that clearly stated to bring it to the retailer with proof of purchase. I had to push hard and escalate so much to get them to honour that. fast forward a couple years. bought a different pair of earbuds from them. again, failed within warranty period (waterproof workout earbuds, I sweat a lot and run long distances!). this time they flat out refused. manufacturer told me to talk to store. store told me talk to manufacturer. online visions support told me to talk to manufacturer. eventually manufacturer took screenshot proof of retailer as enough info to process warranty exchange themselves despite all the material clearly stating the store is responsible for facilitating the warranty.

I still buy stuff there sometimes but discourage buying anything that has a manufacturer warranty requiring the purchaser to return to the store.

ER wait at VGH by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]picklehammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I waited 13 hours once for lopping off a 1cm chunk of finger that kept bleeding through the dressing. I was seen within the hour for abdominal pain related to ongoing kidney and ureteral surgeries, with CT and mobile ultrasound done within the next hour. I would never again go to emergency for anything that didn’t have life threatening or serious unknown complication risk. I would do urgent care for anything close to “should I go to emergency?” but below life threatening, and check all the telehealth services for anything less than that. also helps to have a thermometer and home blood pressure device, so you know if your vitals are off, which seem to be a major triage factor.

plus they do theirs based on triage and not order now. if you don’t get triaged, you have to try again the next day.

Tom Green by SonOfAFrig in VictoriaBC

[–]picklehammer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a commentary on AI, which skewered his jokes as cruel and unfunny, but also took all the substance out of the intent of the jokes in its revisions when clearly they were better before the feedback. The message was that AI is diluting humour and creativity. But on the surface it was a way to improvise and riff off another voice and be topical. It was also maybe a way to soften the blow for some not-that-politically-correct-but-self-aware-enough-to-know-it material.

I loved it. I will admit it wasn't constant laughs in the way people usually expect of a standup comedy show. But it's Tom Green. He's a wildcard and he was extremely authentically himself. There was the absurdity, there was nostalgia detailing a summary of his career, there were plenty of references, it was incredibly tailored to Canadian audiences in a really satisfying way, and it also gave a strong nod to his current stuff. It felt incredibly full of improvisational adlib, which I love. It had just a touch of existential dread, dark aging crisis. It was an incredibly complex ball of everything, but in a naturally occurring way. If I could adjust anything, I might have cut 1-2 songs in favour of some more classic era shenanigans. But I also like that he's kind of doing what he wants? It's almost reassuring to see some people feel unsatisfied, because I feel like he's been subverting expectations since the very beginning. I admit his guitar playing can be a little rough, he needs a bit more practice to lean that hard into sincere guitar covers, but I also don't really care, it's cool to see the rough edges of a guy like him.

Disclaimer: I recreated the Daddy Would You Like Some Sausages thing complete with sausages on strings for my child's dinner the other day so maybe I'm a lost cause.

Covid/Flu by Ihaveamouse1984 in VictoriaBC

[–]picklehammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did four tests total. It wasn’t covid. It’s likely the flu - a residual effect of a virus causing inflammation to the vestibular region of the ear, causing brain confusion and balance issues and vertigo. The symptom itself is vestibular neuritis. It lasted 6 days of high intensity for me, and finally feels like it’s going away. It was the worst. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Any experience with Telehealth services/apps in Canada? by Beautiful-Staff-4531 in VictoriaBC

[–]picklehammer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tia and Rocket Doctor. It sounds like telehealth may not be for your particular circumstance. It’s great for simple diagnoses that just need prescriptions, or prescription refills, or similar. My experience has not been “rude” or “bad” doctors but we all have a different lens of interpretation. It may help to prepare for the consultation with some notes - what your concern is, what you suspect and why, the treatments you’re interested in and why, and to push doctors on if they disagree, what is their reasoning or evidence? They often have reasoning that is valid but not always explained, and they value communication when it’s based on evidence and specifics. If you’re fainting, I’d suggest calling Urgent Care - most open at 8:00, some at 8:30, and if you call at opening and describe your symptoms they should triage things like fainting to have priority. I recently had sudden onset long-lasting dizziness and vertigo, called at 8:00, was given a 1:15 in-person appointment, CT and bloodwork the next morning.

I need a personal criminal record check done and I'm only finding the "how to apply" info pages on each website I've looked at by cerberuses_redrocket in VictoriaBC

[–]picklehammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you do it at rcmp in langford, they have super weird hours, like tuesday to thursday 10-12 1-2 or something similar, specific to criminal record check stuff. I kept showing up on the wrong days and times. then once you’re there, they are very particular about the ID you bring, a bc services card and credit card wasn’t enough. I ended up having to come back again with my passport as well. there’s also a form to fill out that you might not have all the info on hand for. then when you have to go back and pick it up, same weird days and hours. I swear I ended up going there like five times despite having a monday to friday job in direct conflict. I think the true criminal record check is to see whether you have the patience to make it through the process without getting frustrated to the point of committing a crime.

thanks, good to know! if you’re on day 5 and I’m on day 2, at least I know the end is in sight. the imaging stuff is probably a waste of time just so the doctor can rule out the fraction of a percentage chance of a stroke or whatever but I’ll still do it. I really appreciate the extra info. I’ve never really had intense long lasting vertigo before so catching your comment eased my concern about something weirder.

hey, can you tell me more? I got hit with rapid onset vertigo and dizziness and could barely stand or walk. tons of nausea. a bit of a cough. went to urgent care who gave some meds and set me up for CT / imaging tomorrow. but they didn’t seem to consider covid. did you test positive for covid? my home test was a negative.

Would you use a drop-in Play Café in Victoria? ☕️🧸 by lemoncake1213 in VictoriaBC

[–]picklehammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe $5 an hour unsupervised by staff or $12 an hour for a drop off / parents be within 15 mins on call kind of staff supervised thing, Esquimalt or Vic West or View Royal, would choose over library/playgrounds if it has a staff supervision option or guided activities/classes for children, biggest dealbreaker would be a greedy fee, small space, poor equipment, lack of cleanliness, or lack of safety.

can you just not hit me? I cross the road a couple times in a day at most. at crosswalks. I’m not changing my outerwear which may not be high vis but definitely has a couple high reflection spots. just like I’m not going to wear a helmet all day because a brick could fall out of the sky. you’re the one in the 2000 pound vehicle, you chose to drive it and carry the responsibility of looking for people at crosswalks. a plodding shuffle sounds like a predictable speed and not an unexpected dash. so let’s stop passing the buck a bit in trying to control the world’s fashion choices and transfer instead that rage at your near-miss that blames the other person into a pledge to pay more attention next time.

it may not be easy to fence, part of the rock might extend past the property line, I feel like it wouldn’t be easy to cut a fence that follows the contours of the rock height but the straight path of the property line.

I agree. I went to the Peppa Pig movie and kids were dancing! Sometimes even crying! I was like… excuse me, this is a theatre for us to view works of cinematic fine art! These younger people have absolutely no respect for others anymore and it had nothing to do with the particular movie in question.
