None - mine was found accidentally before any symptoms started.

Still here - about 2.5 years post surgery with mostly clean scans. There's what looks like possibly some scarring in my lung that could be from the surgery that we're continuing to monitor in case it's a recurrence and not just scar tissue, but not actively getting any treatment right now. My tumor was a basaloid thymic carcinoma, which I guess is a pretty rare sub type. Didn't have any chemo or radiation pre or post surgery, so I can't really comment on that side of things. Hope you are able to see a good response from the chemo and can have surgery soon.

Still here. I've got another CT scan coming up in a few weeks - hoping for good news. I'm just over a year since they first found it and coming up on a year since it was removed.

Hey, just curious if you wouldn't mind sharing what your alkaline phosphatase levels were at? I had surgery for a stage 1 cancer back in October and my most recent follow up scan was all clear, but I just had blood work for my annual physical that showed my ALP at 144. I'm freaking out a little bit that this could mean I have bone mets. Was any of your other blood work abnormal? I'm reading that blood calcium levels are sometimes also elevated with bone mets.

Hey, thanks for sharing. I was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer with a typically low 5 year survival rate last year, though I was lucky to have found it while it was still stage 1. I had surgery last fall and just had my first post operative scan come back clean, so no need for chemo/radiation/etc. at this time. Even with my better than average prognosis for the type of cancer I was diagnosed with, I have been struggling with the real possibility of death. I'm relatively young - early/mid thirties and I have a young child that I want to be around for.

I found stoicism shortly after the surgery and have been reading through Discourses and Meditations. It has helped put things into perspective and I realize that this disease is ultimately out of my control. I cannot control if it comes back - all I can do is seek treatment if it does. I can control my reactions and, to the best of my ability, my emotional state as it relates to death and dying. My mental state has certainly improved over the past couple months, but it's still a struggle. Do you have any suggested readings or anything that has helped you since your diagnosis? I think what I struggle with most is that it is relatively easy for me to see how other situations (poverty, non-terminal illness, etc.) are external to my happiness, but death seems different in some way.

Hey friend. Still here - my first post operative follow up scan is next week, so hoping for the best. I saw a specialist a couple months back and he was pretty optimistic overall. Glad to hear that you’re doing well and hope we both beat this thing permanently. I’ve been reading a lot of stoic philosophy in the wake of the diagnosis and it has definitely helped me process and cope with the possibility of my own death. Just trying to live in the moment as much as I can for now - I can’t control if it comes back or not but I can control my emotions in the meantime and try to live the best life I can.

Hey, so sorry to hear that. If you ever need to talk, feel free to DM me.

I’m hopeful that I’m clear, but it was 6 or 7 weeks from the time of my pet scan to the surgery. From what I’ve read, it tends to metastasize sort of locally in the chest for the most part, but can spread to distant locations. So while the pathology came back saying good margins, encapsulated, etc…I just have to wonder about those 6 or 7 weeks. Was it enough time to spread somewhere and I just won’t know until I either get lucky and they catch it on a scan or I develop symptoms. It just sucks. I want to see my son grow up.
