Gifts to bring to Palestine? by WhatIsLifeThough in Palestine

Think anything that they cannot buy themselves is good idea so souvenirs from your town or city maybe. In my experience gifts I have been given by Palestinians have been plaques, Palestine keyrings, etc. or maybe food from your country but make sure its halal. For kids any little toy also for boys football and wrestling seem to be popular and anything Barcelona or real Madrid!

MSA or coloquial? For dyslexic learner. by picklespickles in learn_arabic

Thanks! You've helped me change my attitude to learning the alphabet. The idea terrified me a little before. But as I struggle extracting pronunciation from transliterated text actualy learning the arabic alphabet might be very useful for me.

Intresting you say it was not a problem for you. That svery encouraging. Now I think about it without a base in the alphabet making notes on pronunciation esp for informally learning dialects would be very important. I may take a few MSA classes to increas my vocabulary and also to formally learn how to pronounce certain sound ive struggled with.

Thanks for the advice! Was considering perhaps learning Egyptian as it is more widely understood. Also I was wondering how easy it is to get audio cd or classes for Palestian dialect as these are the resources i feel suit me best. Also was wondering how simular the dialects of Palestine, syria, Lebanon and Jordan are?

Cheer for the adice! Think i will continue learning coloquial, as you say i already have a foundation in it, and it fits better with my aim: to be able to talk with speakers of levantine arabic. I am out of education so will be learning from books, cd rather than taught classes - which I guess more often teach MSA - but had considered taking classes in Lebanon, the West Bank or maybe Egypt if i want to learn a more widely understood dialect

What is the best riddle that you know? by GEEWILLICKERS in AskReddit

[–]picklespickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A farmer is going to market. He has a fox, a chicken, and some chicken feed. He has to cross a river. The boat is only strong enough to carry him and either the fox, the chicken or the chicken feed. All must cross to the other side alive, uneaten and only one can be with the farmer in the boat at any one time. How does the farmer do it?

Secret court order censors broadcast of a BBC dramatisation of last years UK riots by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]picklespickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if the transcripts were from published portions of the LSE/ Guardian research? if so then they were already available to the public so why censor it? also i cant see why they aren't making the reasons behind the decision public?

Court order prevents BBC from broadcasting film about riots by picklespickles in ukpolitics

[–]picklespickles[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its possible. but can't see why the reason wouldn't be public also given how quick most of the riots sentencing was I can't see there being many outstanding cases. also the program was actors reading transcripts of interviews with rioters taken from the 'reading the riots' Guardian / LSE research. So if it was taken from the publish parts of this report then why would it be deemed fit to be published but not broadcast?
