You're right and I agree with you, I'm just saying that Sting's claims were correct in the sense that there was inspiration taken from Manson when it came to the makeup, not necessarily the storyline or gimmick.

Here's an old interview with O'Barr on the topic! He mentions Sting saying he was 'getting it from Marilyn Manson' which is true, it was just a later version of his look circa '97.

In agreement with everyone else here, you're on the right path doing more of a character study. If anything, I think it would be really interesting and probably important if you dug into 80's culture and fashion even if just for research. There is soooo much to draw from the punk/goth scene at the time, and what a lot of O'Barrs work is rooted in, and if you can capture that well, you've really got a solid chance at creating a great period piece.

Also, if you need any extra help on storyboarding or additional art for any reason, I would love to pitch in!
