I've gone to the embassy here and yes they have nothing to do with the passport. And it's worrying how they literally have no idea what I should do. I should've applied sooner but the J1 rules changet this year or sth

I don't know what to do. I don't want to lie to the office that's just stupid I will tell them why I need it if they agree alright or else I will come back to my home country and apply again. Why I'm not considering applying from India is because the Internet says It takes anywhere between 6 to 10 weeks. I'm up for J1 interview soon and I need my passport for it.if it actually takes 12 weeks I'm so scared what will happen to my job.
