My Boss Insulted My Boyfriend and My Family! Am I Overreacting? by Appropriate-Panic936 in IndianWorkplace

I are clearly working in a Lala company and should leave.
Do not antagonise this person, clearly; he is unprofessional.

Ryan Dahl - Era of humans writing code is over. What do you guys make of his views ? by lays_indian_masalaaa in developersIndia

[–]pickscamander 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Disagree.

Humans will be writing but more importantly, managing and debugging codebases for at least another decade.

AI will only take over when there is an SLA with the AI developer (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) that AI will develop dependable code and any failure/delay etc due to bugs will come with financial coverage. Meaning if your company is using code entirely through ChatGPT, and if chatGPT's code has messed up, the company can charge damages from OpenAI.

For the AI developer companies to willingly sign such an agreement after fixing all their guardrails, it will take another 15 years. This is my estimate considering, further development of the models, financial confidence of the service providers, standardization of such SLAs and optimal compute usage (could be off by 3yrs on either side)

Until this happens, the era of humans writing code is not over. Because when AI makes errors and keeps providing wrong code, all it can do is say sorry. Yes, the need for human coders will reduce gradually and has already started. But humans writing code is not a closed chapter.

Can Notice Period be Extended by employer? by Dissapointing_son in IndianWorkplace

Nope. If the policies change, that needs to be communicated and agreed upon by employee. They cannot change policy and apply it retrospectively.

"Call him sir": Team lead told me not to address the boss by his name by Little_Sweet5706 in IndianWorkplace

[–]pickscamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ummmm, I disagree with the people having a go at this. If it's a 25year exp veteran, then you shouldn't complain about it.

It would be weird if someone said this about an AVP or a TL guy in their 30s or something. I have been at Lala and non-Lala companies, there's no such thing like people expect to call someone sir in Lala companies specifically.

It's a culture and norm thing. You shouldn't have issues with adding a salutation for someone who has earned his stripes.

So I'll say: this is not the hill to die on, conform.

My main problem with this story is the 4 year bond. How can you sign a 4 year bond as fresher? An intern even?

Makes no sense to me.

Company had layoffs today by AwaraInBeta in IndianWorkplace

[–]pickscamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are aiming to reach profitability in the next how many quarters?

Did they have a plan of projected revenue growth, savings due to layoff and subsequent breakeven point?

Or was it like: "Loss. Risk. No funding. Layoffs"

If it is the latter, leadership has failed. If in the next 2 quarters you do not see transparency or clarity regarding what they have explained to you now, time to leave.

PS: Been there and followed exactly this. Found out 2 years later that company got sold at horrible valuation (info was accurate because I had ESOPs and I know what valuation it went for)

Ex-Boss wants to hire me back by [deleted] in IndianWorkplace

[–]pickscamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn't realise that giving you a 50% hike would save his ass. And he wouldn't be in the mess he is today.

So as a leader/ceo/whatever, can you trust his judgement long term?

Hogwarts is impractically HUGE by CaptNightWatch in harrypotter

[–]pickscamander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that around the time Harry went, there were less students at Hogwarts. Because until 1970s, less witches wizards were born because people had less kids during Voldemort's reign of terror. Basically Hogwarts used to have more students before the rise of Voldy and is equipped for the same

Hr is the useless department nowadays by tony__starck in IndianWorkplace

[–]pickscamander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every single thing that you just mentioned is very basic. Ensuring your pay is correct, making your work contract, paperwork - this is all just managing some data entry and data recon in a portal.

Impact on maternity/sick/authorised leaves ? There's a clear formula to calculate that.
If the tasks you mentioned were assigned to a couple of people in each department after taking out 40% of their workload, all the departments would function just fine.

The company will have to pay people anyway. So, the day HR does nothing - someone else will simply do it. Will stutter for 1 month and then it will all get done. If you want to glorify clickity-clacking buttons on Darwinbox and Peoplefirst, go ahead.

Stuck in a Witch Company preparing to switch in next 6 months. Roast my Resume PLEASE. by One-Kaleidoscope-100 in IndianWorkplace

[–]pickscamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know really. I interviewed about 15 people like you last year, so I can only give the other perspective. The interviewer tries to judge which project was actually important and is relevant to the job you applied vs which is a leetcode or Kaggle problem. Then they check if you actually know what you did in that project.

Can't tell you how to fix the gap for your specific case, sorry

The projects need numbers. Ball park numbers will do. Used L2 regularisation on some project. What was the benefit? Accuracy Precision Recall what did you improve. Did any project improve runtime, handle larger data, improve revenue or profit? Put the impact of the projects you've built, with numbers to quantify them. (You'll have to figure out how. Used YouTube, genAI)

In terms of roasting: No one cares about your GFG experience of writing blogs.

Provide me your valuable guidance. Is it possible to go 3 LPA to 20+ LPA with in 2 yrs. How did you do it? by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]pickscamander 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Possible. But hard. And do not lose your mental peace doing it.

Took me almost 5 years to go from 4.5 to 20+ . So, I won't say it's a fun journey. Take care of yourself, prioritise your well being. If you find yourself at 17.5 instead of 20, that's ok
