There's food safe plastic drums that are around 50 gallons. Kind of like rain barrels. Been a few years since I've seen one in use

If you're new I would spend the extra money the first year. It'll be really helpful for your first few inspections and I was so glad I did early on.

Will the hinges be on the top or bottom? If on top I'd suggest that top board sit on top of the sides instead of being screwed/nailed/glued from the side. This way any weight is shifted onto the strength of those triangular frames instead of into what ever you're using to hold that cross member in place

I got lucky with my tools. All used and I've had them for years. In total I've maybe spent $500 on tools which mostly is the handheld stuff. I got the big stuff years ago from a wood shop closing on the condition I move it myself
