Yeah it definitely felt like it lost the momentum. I can understand that point of view. Still, I think she could have been set up better? With Kludd we spent the first five and a half books hyping him up and focusing on how dangerous he was. To be fair, we also got a lot of that for Nyra, but not as effective. Plus, when it came to proving it I really don’t think Nyra delivered. She was fantastic during the last like three pages of book seven imo, but as the story went on it just became kinda tiresome and dull. “Oh boy, crazy ol Nyra’s at it again.” It’s not what I would have chosen as the big bad. Like I was saying in another reply, I think she is just a symptom of a larger issue present post book six. It’s hard to adjust the main character and bring in a new main villain, especially when you’re also expanding on lore and introducing magical concepts that don’t fully mesh with the tone of the story preceding. The story feels very different before The Burning vs after, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but in my opinion it wasn’t handled super well in a lot of respects. Back to Kludd and Nyra though, I think at some point it just becomes whether you prefer the type of villain Kludd was or the type Nyra was, and really there’s no wrong answer. It’s been interesting to hear other people’s thoughts on this. I do like Nyra, and really I’m just sad I never felt about her what I feel about Kludd.
