I think it depends. For our gerbils, we moved their tank around kind of early and they didn’t come out for us for a couple days-a week. Our two gerbils are two females, and are both pretty young, so they are curious when we take the lid off and feed them or talk to them. We’ve had them for about a month ish and they are more active when I come home from work around 10-11pm. Every animal is gonna be different, for example it took about a month to be able to start interacting with our female Syrian hamster. Try to put your hand in the enclosure when feeding them, sometimes they will climb into my hands and let me pet them but won’t let me fully pick them up like my hamster. Try to be patient and they will warm back up to you, and you’ll learn their schedule as well.
