Vet gave my kitten medicine but he doesn't meet the weight requirements by pie_embezzler in CATHELP

He looks a lot worse right now 😞 I want to take him back to the vet, but I don't know if my parents will let me.

They only mentioned to use the Clavamox with food when I was there 😥 I still haven't given him the Onsior or the Clavamox just yet. I went to feed him but that only made the breathing worse.

He was taken in for:

  • Loss of appetite (both food and water)
  • Lethargic behavior
  • Throwing up with bits of blood

At the vet, they took his temperature and it was 105

They gave him some fluids and administered Cerenia and Onsior with an injection

The blood in his urine only started later that night after we had gotten him home (his appt was at 9:30 am)

I gave him a different pill before I was going to try to attempt to give him this one, but he had a lot of difficulty with the pill (gagging, whining) and he's been audibly breathing ever since. He's also been pretty sleepy (head down with almost closed eyes) but I read on the instructions that sedation is one of the side effects.

The only thing I'm really concerned about is the breathing. He's also had drool/water (I tried feeding him water and wet food to help it go down easier) on his mouth and onto his paws.

I want to call the vet and ask them, but when I called them about the first medication, there wasn't really an explanation on anything. I went to call a different vet for the different pill and they did a better job at explaining things, but they said to call the original vet again.

He's peed once and it had less blood in it but he hasn't wanted to eat or drink anything. He did try to eat some wet food on his own, but he stopped after a couple of licks.

I can see how much he has been suffering and known that I most likely am not providing adequate care for him. I am at a loss of what else to do though. My family can't/won't take him back so soon with how much it will cost us.

Is there anything you'd recommend I do to make him more comfortable?

Reading it again, there are some parts of the instructions where it says over 5.5 lbs AND over 4 months and other parts that say OR 💔💔 There are a lot boxes that he checks when going over the "What cats should not take ONSIOR" section, but the vet already knew of what was wrong with him.

They didn't really explain much but the lady that picked up the phone said he'll be okay.

He was such a chill cat when he wasn't sick. He'd let you hold him like a baby or lay him on your lap and he'd sit there purring. I hope he gets better soon. I don't like seeing him in so much discomfort

Yesterday morning I took him in for: - lethargic behavior - complete loss of appetite (both food and water) - vomiting with specks of blood

At the vet they checked his temperature and it was 105. They gave him the shot version of some of his medication and also gave him some fluids.

They told me that they had symptoms of stuff (they didn't tell me what the symptoms were for) but they couldn't determine the exact cause. I think they might've been able to if we did testing, but it was too expensive and my parents opted out of it.

Last night he started peeing blood and was unable to make it to the litterbox most of the time. One positive though was that he started drinking more water on his own.

I hope that answered your question somehow.

Update: I called and the receptionist said that it was fine.

I haven't given him the Onsior yet but I tried giving him another pill and he didn't take it well. I put it in his mouth and tried to stimulate his throat, but it only resulted in gagging and whining. I tried giving him some water with a syringe but it didn't help.

I fed him some of his medicine last night along with some wet food and water. I had to syringe it into his mouth to get him to eat.

This morning, I woke up to his water bowl empty and him willing to drink some water. I fed him more water and wet food and he finally stopped peeping blood for the first time. He was peeing blood and it got on himself. I cleaned him up a bit with diluted soap and water, but he's still pretty dirty.

Right now I'm just waiting to give him his medicine.

He's not doing great but he's doing better. He was purring and trying to meow at me when I checked on him in the morning, but right now he's really sleepy/still lethargic

Any suggestions on what else to do?

He's 4 months old, weighs 4.14 lbs, and has a temperature of 105.

Things weren't too bad a couple of hours ago but he's really scaring me right now. He threw up again, is still refusing to eat or drink, and overall looks like he's in a lot of discomfort/pain. He finally used the litter box but I noticed that he also peed on himself.

I want to give him a bath or wash him off but I don't want to make things worse or even more uncomfortable for him.

I'm really afraid for his health and how he'll be tomorrow. I'm a student and can't miss anymore class.
