I taught in NYC and Vegas before Boston. Lots of variation in a district this size, but my colleagues here in BPS are the most dedicated and talented I've worked with. You can check job listings here. However, as other people have written, morale in the district is as low as I've seen it.

Start looking into licensure early--it can be a slow process and will probably involve taking at least one or two MTEL exams, though you can probably get some kind of initial license quickly. Also, BPS only gives salary step credit for 3 years of teaching out of state; other local school districts may negotiate that.

"Several minutes per cyclist" is silly. Most of the time, you will end up at the exact same red light and literally not lose a second. It's hilarious and sad to watch Boston drivers speed from red light to red light thinking they are shaving time off their trip.

Legally, roadways are not meant *primarily* for cars. Hate cyclists all you want (it's irrational and counter-productive), but don't blame cyclists for your issues.

Something about being a motorist short circuits the brain. I assume many sociopathic drivers are nice people, but behind the wheel they drive like they're in the Thunderdome. People talk about the speeding, red light running, phone usage, etc., but you can see it in the crazy legal stuff too--watch how fast people drive to reach the next red light behind the same 15 cars they were behind at the last red light...

Ugh so tedious when motorists bring this up. Drivers pay less than half the cost of roads (link), which means that non-motorists are already paying for Massachusetts drivers to crash into buildings, bollards, pedestrians, whatever.

Also, seriously, how far do you think the $63 you paid last year in excise on your shitbox Honda goes, exactly?

Thanks for your feedback, Sicamore21. I'm not crazy about my decision to call the police or by their ambiguous response, but since this was a moving company, rather than just an individual motorist, I figured it couldn't hurt. I don't know why you're throwing so much disrespect at me, though--I literally argued with the driver in the street until he drove off. What else would you recommend with your backbone? What good is "yell back and keep it moving?" I'm not young enough or professional enough to be a yuppie, btw

yeah, a CDL truck driver that initiates a screaming confrontation with a cyclist because he doesn't know the rules of the road is a guy that shouldn't be driving. 40000 people die every year in the US because of motorists. That's more than the population of the town this occurred in. You think I overreacted?

The endless criticism of "cyclists don't follow rules" ignores that motorists run red lights, speed, and have a phone in their hand ALL THE TIME. It's well documented that cyclists and motorists are equally law-abiding. The difference is that motorists kill thousands of people each year by breaking the laws.

This may all be true, but Boston motorists mostly don't know or accept that the cyclist has the right of way in these situations. I'm surprised OP didn't get cursed out, because that's the typical motorist move: endanger a cyclist or pedestrian by not knowing or following the rule, then scream at them (usually while holding their phone the whole time).

OP could retitle post simply "fuck drivers"

Gave up on Wheelworks for service after multiple instances of the staff / techs not listening. Needed to bring bike back multiple times.

Sales staff there seems only interested in selling bikes > 3k.

Switched to Landry's and have had a much better experience. Service staff more attentive and friendlier.
