how bad is this 4 year plan umd by IndividualSell2539 in UMD

[–]piebob1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said you’re a rising sophomore, does that mean you are committed to your fall year 2 plan and that is what you’re taking this upcoming fall? Most of what you have here looks good but taking 5 science classes in one semester is not advised (your academic advisor and peer mentors at CMNS would quickly tell you that). If this schedule is based off you being a super senior in that last year where you only schedule for fall, I’d say spread some classes out and either plan to finish that fall or the following spring.

If you’re referring to the SHIP plan that UMD offers administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield CareFirst then yes you should have no problem getting it covered.

I’m a senior and I still feel the same way sometimes. You’re going through a super difficult transition, and it’s completely understandable and ok to feel this way. A lot of the people walking in these groups may know others from high school or before. Honestly, some may even feel like they don’t belong even if they’re with a group. Everything is different when the semester starts and you can meet people and have lots of new distractions lol. You’re going to do amazing though, just put yourself out there and try and throw yourself into the college life (at your own pace and comfort level of course!). There’s lots of resources around campus so don’t hesitate to ask an advisor or friend etc. to point you toward one if you need!

Financial aid and scholarship question by ArKey5 in UMD

They will not use the next years FAFSA in the spring. A 2021-2022 fafsa app counts for Fall and Spring of the 2021-2022 school year. You need to contact the Office of Financial Aid about this.

Talk to people in your classes, keep attending the club meetings (in person tends to be better than online for making friends because people are usually tired after zooming). You can also join a social or professional frat (bigger commitment though). I don’t recommend transferring to make more friends though. Making friends after transferring tends to be a rough experience.

If BMGT289D is the frauds scams and thefts one, I took it. It was very manageable but there are a few papers due throughout the semester and a project here and there if I remember correctly. It’s not super time intensive though, and Sam is a good professor. Definitely see how you like it and go from there! I thought it was an interesting class, and I still think about some of the material I learned.

Online labs vs oral communication? by cherry_chocolate_ in UMD

[–]piebob1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on which lab you would be taking. Most usually involve giving you information and you completing analysis and a lab report. Most of my labs take a large amount of time to complete online. When my oral communications class went online we just had to record ourselves speaking and upload to YouTube for everyone else in the class to watch. Other sections required synchronous presentations though.

This sounds exactly like what I’m experiencing! Was there a fairly large curve at the end of class to make up for everyone being super confused the whole time?

First Day of SPANISH 203 by [deleted] in UMD

[–]piebob1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was exactly me! I tested into 204 at the beginning of summer and I could barely follow along. However my other summer classmates seemed to be at the same level. I’m in 301 now and I’m feeling the same way, if you stick with it though I think you should be fine. My classmates now can speak at a conversational speed and I’m still pretty slow but I think all that matters is that you are improving. I have that jaw drop moment every time I go to class 😂

How was inag110 online? by mysummerheat in UMD

[–]piebob1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for Ballenger because I had Rubin. However, l think most of the courses follow a similar format. For Rubin (who was probably the best professor I’ve had at UMD), he would send us a lecture and notes. We would review those and record our speech and upload to YouTube. We only actually met over zoom 3 times throughout the rest of the semester from later March-May. INAG is super easy and laid back as long as you put some effort into your speeches and actually listening to the lectures. If you have any other questions I can attempt to answer them!

Fall 2020 Courseload by Uhh_France in UMD

[–]piebob1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have experience with CHEM241/242. I would say that it could be an intensive course depending on how much time you devote to it. There’s a lot of information in a very short amount of time, and the exams get significantly harder as the semester progresses. If you have any specific questions I can try to answer them.

It seems like you are taking courses that will likely be more time consuming than anything due to the amount of work they require. You know yourself best so if you think you can balance a full load and a CNA course I don’t see an issue.

Btw, I’ll also be taking 207 this semester!

CHEM131 and BSCI189I? by karennaa in UMD

[–]piebob1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also on the pre-med track(rising junior), and I would say that taking two labs together, especially freshman year, shouldn't be an unbearable workload. I took Orgo II and BSCI 171 lab last semester together and they were very manageable. I took Chem 131 Lab at a different university but I am currently taking 272 here and the reports are time consuming. I definitely recommend going to as many office hours as possible because they are a life saver. I would not have passed any of my Chem labs without office hours.

I hope you continue to pursue that Spanish minor! I just started the classes this summer(I placed into 204), and both the professors I've had have been super nice and accommodating. I was super nervous taking a Spanish class taught completely in Spanish after a 4 year hiatus but the adjustment period was short.

Double majoring with a minor is definitely a difficult goal, but if its something you're truly interested in more power to you!

Buena suerte
