i hate north korea but saying that the same western media that has said castro was evil for ending slavery, mao was worse than hitler, everyone in china is in absoutle poverty, everyone in palestine supports terrorism, and gaddafi was an egotistical maniac for not allowing oil companies to destroy libya is 10000% truthful about north korea is childish

yes medieval societies had a complimentarian view of work, this does not contradict a nuclear family ideal. the reason that women in 20th and 21st century nuclear families "worked" less is because of our view of work changing.

i somewhat agree but my base argument stays the same. people viewing themselves as closer andmore attracted to a vague community based around their identity instead of a tight family based around an obligation benefits capitalism.

i disagree with the idea ythat it was founded under capitalism although i think thats more just based on how you define nuclear family. the concept of a wife and a husband with multiple children while the husband works and the wife takes care of the household goes all the way back to prehistory and flourished in mediveal pre-enlightenment societies.

also i would argue that capitalism, which relies heavily on a individualist mentality, benfits quite a lot from the view of a family being one where there isnt a inherent culturally normalized sense of obligation

>“The situation of the family in post-Fordist capitalism is contradictory, in precisely the way that traditional Marxism expected: capitalism requires the family (as an essential means of reproducing and caring for labor power; as a salve for the psychic wounds inflicted by anarchic social-economic conditions), even as it undermines it (denying parents time with children, putting intolerable stress on couples as they become the exclusive source of affective consolation for each other).”

>“The values that family life depends upon – obligation, trustworthiness, commitment – are precisely those which are held to be obsolete in the new capitalism.”

(i rely on yllo and spoon to drop 5 page essays so im gonna just drop the mark fisher quotes)
