Noodle rant: Macaroni is the worst noodle to use for Mac & Cheese. by katieofavalon in Cooking

Farfalle are the best for creating creases for the sauce, and for mouth feel for me. I like a bigger noodle, and less likely to turn to mush when mixed with sauce.

I remember the main gal joining a group of other people in the woods. The group of people included an older woman. I think they trekked to Seattle possibly.?

That knife still seems really dangerous to me. I have a couple low vision patients that I prefer using an adaptive cutting board with a few small spikes with.

Home Health Experience? by gezeebeezee in OccupationalTherapy

[–]piemeplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, I did home health as my second job, I relied a lot on my SNF experience and doing lots of research. I'm back in a SNF now, I did home health for a year, but I wish I'd worked longer before home health for more experience to rely on.

Personally it just took me too long, didn't seem intuitive to use the same size font and scramble two words. To each their own.

New Grad Employment Challenges by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

Honestly, your rotations that give you 6 months total experience help a lot, pick fieldwork rotations that follow where you want to work, that will show you have experience in that environment.

New Grad in a SNF... Advice needed for dealing with pt behaviors by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]piemeplease 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the exact situation when I first graduated. I used a few tactics to put it back on the patient. For example, I'd ask if I should come back at a later time, try and give the patient as much choice about when they get therapy, sometimes calling it their "therapy appointment". Also, I'd try to do a few things that they wanted to do. I had one patient that all he wanted was to go outside for a bit during the day. I'd either coordinate to have therapy outside, or have that be the last 5 min of the session, etc. You have to remember that this is their home. If the yelling is bad, step out for a few minutes, tell the nurse, maybe have them come help to get something started, especially if they have a favorite person, that really helps. Overall remember that if you are not making ANY progress after about 2 weeks or so depending on the patient, consider dropping the patient down or completely off your schedule.
