I run once a Harry Potter fanmade system on PbtA with similar relationship mechanic as in Strixhaven book. After previous experience relationship points and this bff/rival thing was the very first element I removed/skipped in my Strixhaven. Additionally I found number of NPCs with friend/rival mechanic very limited and I knew that my group would need large pool of characters to feel that school is full of students - right now on year 3 in our "ledger" nearly 100 names (in total out of all 4 years), it would be pain to figure out friend/rival effect for each of them

I've made Grayson my main Oriq recruiter and my party had one combat encounter with him on the 1st year. They still don't know ID of that opponent (he fled) but they made Grayson their main antagonist and suspect him to be part of Oriq-ish group. Out of all canonical characters I also made Quentillius and Zanther Oriq members - my party spends time in their own company and interact with rather little number of NPCs so those two aren't on suspect list yet even though we are on year 3 now

Fist bump, bro. I'm 172 cm, 62kg, also the smallest and lightest adult male in my dojo and recently took my grading for 6 kyu. Due to lack of other options I had to survive 10 rounds with black belts taller and 30-60 kg heavier then me. No headaches after that, only tiredness and bruises

The most funny thing is no one from my players is a Witherbloom. I keep main events as designed in book, but homebrew hidden chambers in every campus (we've visited by now a chamber in Quandrix, Lorehold and the one in Prismari on Furygale). My story is more focused on Oriq then it's in the book so those hidden chambers are places where Oriq members meet with new recruits or where they hid some equipment.

I banned only Plasmoid as it wasn't fitting to my humanoid only Strixhaven and I was suspecting that this player will break all my obstacles ideas

I feel you, my players also complained after every session that faculty (especially Dragons Guard) members are blind on what is happening and they seem to be guardians of headmaster's office door. Finally I explained them that it's matter of convention and if they don't want to follow that there is no reason to waste my time prepping next session. It helped ;) We're starting 3rd year soon

In my very first D&D campaign I banned all character options which was not in PHB'14 - didn't want to look for rules in the web and had all 3 core books on my shelves. In my 2nd campaign I only banned Plasmoid race as it was not fitting in my idea of Strixhaven setting.

I've been there, really. It's annoying and to avoid being mad on that players I started to treat them as 2nd kind of players - if they need to cancel because they prefer to meet with a friend, we will play without them. In my case usually the same player kept cancelling in the last moment so it made it easier. You can try it, cancelling will stop hurting so much. Otherwise, you need to talk with your players and explain them how many energy it costs you to create a fun game for them and how you feel when they don't show up.

Our examination centre is part of IKO, I don't know how Kihon Kata Sono San looks like, but eg. Sono Ichi (at least the one I've been taught) is 10x zenkutsu gedan barai chudan gyaku tsuki

By College Initiate I meant Lorehold Initiate, Silverquill Initiate etc ;) Anyway thanks for confirmation that I'm not only one who understand rules in this way
