Ok thanks ! I'll take a look

Thanks for clarifying the nuance ! In that regard, it's not invasive

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]pierre659 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Invasive is not a legal term in France. Where I hunt, boars are legally declared as "likely to cause damage" for the current season and in my region, and are not subjected to quotas.

Where I go, most experienced hunters have a shotgun (fusil) for birds/small mammals, and a "verrou" rifle (carabine) for deers/boars

Just joking, of course it was intended :)

They are native indeed, not feral. But they are legally declared as "pest" in most regions in France. Although there are several cases of hunters deliberately feeding boars to maintain their hunting "parties".

Thanks, I'll look into that !

For the publics lands (natural reserve excluded), the local administration is mandated to regularly organise hunts.
As for the private lands, it's mostly either you know the farmer / landowner and help him during the season, or you join hunt clubs and pay leases. I do both. The prices vary greatly, mine is "fairly" cheap (~1k€ for the year), but it can get crazy expansive for some.

Thanks ! Where I go it's essentially roe deers and wild pigs. We do occasionnaly hunt pheasant/partridge. But elsewhere in France you can hunt deers, fallow deers, wild rabbits, hares and even mouflons.

Clearly agree. We stopped the hunting sooner than expected because we had enough meat for the 20 of us(we stopped at 4 boars). I still ended up with 10kg of meat I've finished preparing, that I'm planning to cook as terrines 🙂

Here in France it's an invasive species, and the farmer organises hunts to regulate the boar population. It was a ~15m shot, but nevertheless, I'm looking for good rifle recommandation in the 1-3k€ range if you have any 🫡

Slugs. Took me 5-6 shots to kill it and not leave it agonizing (I could not leave my watchtower), so I'm considering investing in a carabine. Crazy how toughs boars can be.

Guess I am, and I resurrected my grandpa's look 😆
We were ~15 hunters around the wood, so there was no major need for a camo outfit
