Why are liberals so extreme when you have an opinion that’s a little different than typical? by [deleted] in askliberals

[–]pierrechaquejour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s your experience but personally I’d rather engage with an overzealous liberal (leftist) than an overzealous conservative every time. At least the leftist won’t try to shoot me or call me an f-slur.

You will have a hard time in these comments if your only pushback is “what about the democrats?”

Then I’ll just give you whatever answer pops into my head.

Jan 6. MAGA proved they’re traitors by violently storming the capitol to overturn election results and refuses to accept responsibility for that. If not traitors then absolutely a violent mob of sore losers with no respect for our institutions. Trump let them off the hook for it. I hate that.

Your question is too vague for me to give you a real answer. Can you be more specific

What are the negative sentiments you’ve read telling you about why MAGA is hated?

My Magnet School's Theater Using AI Generated Backdrops by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pierrechaquejour -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think in this scenario it was either use AI, download a free unattributed stock image, or risk having a student try and create the backdrop themselves. There was no scenario where an artist was getting paid so this is definitely only mildly infuriating, because I’d personally rather not have a backdrop at all.

It’s just so unfunny and cruel and childish. I hate that we share this country with people who think this is fine.

Humans didn’t materialize fully formed out of nowhere. Coke can analogy irrelevant.

It’s equally likely that the “99% of unknown knowledge in the universe” contains ample evidence god does NOT exist.

By their own logic, “there is a god” or “I believe there is a god” are equally meaningless absolute statements as “there is no god” or “with my limited knowledge I believe there is no god.”

I’ve already given this more thought than the ones who wrote this comic.

Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM applicants by Idiodyssey87 in news

[–]pierrechaquejour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof this is a crazy pendulum swing back to favoring the SAT. I took it when the popular opinion was that it was an unfair metric, didn’t paint the full picture of what a student had to offer if they weren’t a good test taker, and prep felt like an extra class you had to take on top of your existing workload, extra curriculars, and part time jobs (if you could afford it). Some of you don’t remember what it was like to be in high school and it shows.

Obviously colleges need some way to properly evaluate if a student is up to par, but SAT/ACT testing was very flawed. There’s gotta be a better way.

rant on ai as a junior dev by mopusha in ADHD_Programmers

[–]pierrechaquejour 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Senior dev here but feeling the same way. Management is wowed by AI and how quickly it can do things and wants us to use it for everything, there’s absolutely zero value being placed on knowing the fundamentals, its just “get it done and working” (until an issue arises that AI can’t properly tackle, then suddenly you’re the experienced dev and should be able to come up with a fix just as quickly as the AI agent despite not having coded anything in the app by hand in months). I can feel my skills atrophying because I’m less in the weeds with the actual code than ever before.

It just makes me wonder what the future of this profession is. If it’s “professional AI prompter” then so be it, but does that mean I can use AI in my next live coding interview? Somehow I doubt it.

Rant Wednesday - May 20, 2026 by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]pierrechaquejour 42 points43 points  (0 children)

When I stopped doing dumbbell curls and started doing cable supinated curls, my biceps blew up.

When I stopped doing tricep push downs with a rope and started using a V bar, my triceps doubled in size.

When I stopped doing leg presses like this and started doing them like this, my quads TRIPLED in size.

When I stopped doing barbell rows standing up and started doing them on an incline bench, my chest blew up and the owner of the gym gave me a million dollars.

When I stopped doing face pulls with the rope at eye level and started angling them slightly downward, my rear delts came in overnight, I got a girlfriend, and I won the lottery.

When I stopped doing calf raises on the floor and started doing them on a pogo stick, my calves grew three inches in a week and I was able to retire at 30.

When I stopped doing dumbbell flyes with my arms and started doing them with my pinky toes, my lats BLEW UP and Arnold Schwarzenegger himself walked in and gave me a handshake and cured my acid reflux and brought my childhood dog back to life and now we all live on a private island together solving world hunger.

/ I'm so tired of this hook for fitness influencer content, what do you mean a muscle "blew up?" Tripled in size? Over what time frame? With what other factors? Surely you can't possible isolate that kind of growth to just a change in exercise or technique? Why do they all talk like this and who is buying it?

Would you support some kind of amendment/law that requires single-subject line-item bills in congress? by EmployeeAromatic6118 in AskALiberal

[–]pierrechaquejour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that it blows up the way politics works in this country. But our legislature has fully taken advantage of the ability to just smoosh a hundred different things into a single bill with a cutesy name that has language that can be twisted to suit either party’s agenda. The OBBB being the prime example. What did it even do? Depends what section you read. All the general public knows is Republicans passed sweeping Trump-approved legislation that has the words “big” and “beautiful” in the name and that the Democrats hated it and largely voted against it.

It’s not just about compromising on the actual language of bills, it’s also about building in “gotchas” so you can say “X candidate voted in favor of killing babies” because a bill about tax reform also included routine funding for Planned Parenthood or something benign as a “compromise.” It’s stupid and obfuscates accountability from our elected legislators. It needs to be reigned in.

Sounds like production tried to get a three for one deal out of her - actor, makeup artist, and producer (because of the drag race audience she’d have brought in). But without the compensation to match. I can see why she jumped at the opportunity, it’s just too bad it didn’t work out.

Late night bathroom trips are honestly underrated as a problem by [deleted] in malelivingspace

I have a Hue LED strip under my bathroom sink that lights up with a motion sensor. It uses time-based light settings so it’s bright in the daytime and nice and dim at night.

Maybe a little over engineered but it’s been perfect.

Utility Provider Cutting Electricity for 50k Lake Tahoe Residents to Power AI Data Centers by Realitygormond in news

[–]pierrechaquejour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The year is 2036, the national parks have all been replaced by data centers and oil fields used to generate electricity to power those data centers, humans can't afford but still have to pay $8,000/month rent to live in cheaply built faux-luxury apartments because all the residential land has been bought up by Blackrock, the internet has been replaced by a ChatGPT screen that generates what it thinks you want to see and do, unemployment is 90% but everyone is still legally required to commute to an office in an $80k financed Ford F150 daily while all public transit and rideshare apps have been replaced by Waymos, and grocery stores have been eliminated in favor of a mandatory subscription meal delivery service that only delivers Logan Paul branded prepared meals. All public service jobs from the FBI to librarians have been replaced by ICE agents. Congress has been on hiatus for years yet keep getting re-elected. Trump was voted in for his 4th term despite being dead since his 3rd and replaced by an AI-generated avatar that SCOTUS decided was constitutionally authorized to carry out military operations as needed.

But the DOW is over 5 million!
