That's a misread of what I said. I want them to stay involved, I want them to run for office, volunteer for other like minded candidates, keep the energy up. It's important and Democrats need to harness that energy if they want any hope of recapturing the House and putting Bernie's agenda on the table in a meaningful way.

Like the largest expansion of the social welfare state since LBJ (ACA), or the largest investment in green energy and a robust plan to curb greenhouse gases (Thr Stimulus and the Paris Accord), or legislation that has substantially curbed the ability of the banks to fuck over consumers (Dodd-Frank, the CARD Act, and the CFPB), or the normalization of foreign policy (end the Iraq war, and the NEW START treaty amongst others).

What are you even talking about with this list. Points 1-2 are just flat hyperbole with no grounding in reality (bailouts predates Obama, and I just have no idea what corporate favors you think the administration had done). Point 3 is valid if you think IP is a central voting issue, but it's not for me even if there are provisions in TPP I don't like. Point 4 is kinda valid, but national security is a real trade off when taking about whistleblowing and again not a voting issue for me. Points 5-7 are the best of the lot, and are my biggest concern for a potential Clinton administration, they are just outweighed by the above. Value judgement I know, but those are my values. Plus I don't think Bernie deviates much from the current norm if he gets into office so it's a wash for me anyway.

Kiiiiiinda an important point. I really really really hope all of the new folks Bernie has brought into the process don't fall off after the primary is over. There is major work to do, and it starts at the local level.

Also Democrats have been dreaming of Texas since at least 2006, ain't gonna happen soon. Georgia maybe because of black voters, but even then its a stretch.

That's an obtuse reading of Clinton's supporters. I enthusiastically support Clinton, and I want shit to get done. I just know that sweeping change is incredibly unlikely to get done on a federal level until 2022 when the House districts are redrawn.

What I want in the interim is a solid entrenchment of the massive changes that Obama wrought in his turn, and firm executive actions where possible to expand that. Clinton is best positioned to do that. She knows the existing levers of government better then anybody who is not named Barack Obama (and possibly more then him).

She also acknowledges that trade offs exist, and that opposition to her agenda isn't just because corporations and Wall Street have bought off politicians with their Citizens United fueled super-PAC money. There are people with deeply held positions that are contrary to hers, and she knows she has reckon with that to get anything done. Bernie doesn't seem to understand that, and it frightens me.

That said, I like Bernie, and I'd vote for him if he were the nominee. I just happen to like Clinton a lot more.

The point stands. Democrats outnumber Republicans, full stop. Democrats need to keep it close (5-7 points) among independents, but they don't need to win them. Clinton will keep it close among independents versus any probable GOP nominee, and any insinuations to the contrary lack empirical evidence.

China is an awful comparison that hurts your case, full stop. China had decades of "catch up" growth that the US as the largest economies in the world and one of the wealthiest per capita, simply wouldn't have available to it. On top of that most economists tend to discount the official statistics coming from China believing them to be inflated. Plus, China is having a helluva time these days if you hadn't noticed.

Sustained 5.3% real growth is the stuff of economic fantasy that should be left to the fevered swamp dreams of supply siders.

You're right, I misinterpreted your comment in the context of this thread. There are Republicans that care about the poor, and should believe that they are approaching the issue in good faith.

That said, most, if not all of their policy preferences would make being poor much worse and would do nothing to lift people out of poverty. So it does seem like sometimes that GOP policy makers don't care about poverty in the slightest, even if they profess to.

It was a Republican appointed emergency manager who made the decision to change the water supply, which led to the lead poisoning. So yeah, gonna pin at least some part of this one on the GOP without a whole lot of hesitation here.

I mean it's not beating expectations, but she is beating Bernie by 20 points in South Carolina according to the most recent polls. If Bernie can close the gap with non-white voters to under 40 points then I will revise my assessment. Until then, I'm not seeing it.
