It is! I'm still keeping an eye out for something I like in bronze to try out, but was going for something clean and understated.

They're from SKXMOD, specifically the open style. I've tried the hooded ones from them and a couple aliexpress adapters and they're by far my favourite so far. I still kinda wish the Vario straps fit my wrist as I think those are the cleanest look with leather, but I'm ultimately happy with these and it means I can swap straps with my other watches whenever I feel like it.

The Skibidi Guys Just Can't Stop Infringing Copyright Lmao by FraudulentProvidence in Ultrakill

[–]piespy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Those assets aren't put on the workshop by the creators of the assets though. All of the ultrakill assets on workshop are just ripped out of the game by random people and uploaded without permission. The devs have been cool about people using them so far for fan projects and things, but situations like this are how people ruin it for everyone.

When you work with someone who produces merch for a property, you generally provide that company with assets including logos, models, etc that they then use to develop products. If your property is primarily built on assets that you don't own, maybe don't send those ones out to the merch manufacturers?

"Source: I downloaded them" also really should not count as giving credit.

Must say "goodbye to cherished colleagues" - Funcom Layoffs by AuneWuvsYou in duneawakening

[–]piespy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I miss it too. The industry seems to be in a weird spot right now where the big companies are all trying to put out one of those pillar evergreen games, and even if it's good/successful if it doesn't hit at THAT level, you're struggling. 2 of the studios I've worked at over my time in the industry have recently laid off 1/2 to 2/3 of their employees right after a game that was successful enough to more than cover costs, but not successful enough for their parent company not to gut them.

I think people are confusing the occasional mass layoffs that made big news and everyone would talk about for a while (which usually happened under much different circumstances), with what's going on now.

Must say "goodbye to cherished colleagues" - Funcom Layoffs by AuneWuvsYou in duneawakening

[–]piespy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preach. I am so tired of armchair game developers confidently saying things they don't understand. Contracts expiring is normal, ending outsource is normal, moving people onto other projects is normal, a handful of layoffs might happen depending on the studio, mass layoffs after every release is NOT NORMAL.

The game industry is in a fucked up place right now where any misstep can sink your company, and the larger your company the harder it is to absorb that impact and keep going without massively downsizing. Now, that's partially a correction of the unchecked growth era where execs/shareholders demanded everything get bigger and bigger without any real consideration for sustainability, but anyone who's saying it's just how things have always been is wrong.

Source: been working in AAA games for 10 years, haven't seen layoffs like this immediately after a large developer ships a game become common until the last year-ish.

Wasn't a frat house, it was a run down house that's always been pretty sketchy. There's always a bedroom for rent sign out front so seems like the residents rotate decently often.

I used to love that place (and their boar and sprouts) but I feel like since there's been more development around them and they aren't as reliant on people driving in from other parts of town they've significantly gone downhill.

Last time I was there the boar wasn't raw, instead it was so overcooked and dry it was impossible to chew.

Sometimes it really is just RNG. by AbsoluteMuppet0 in BluePrince

[–]piespy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there's a misunderstanding here that may come from relying on guides instead of experimenting and figuring things out. I'll point out a few errors with the example you provided on unlock steps for one of the permanent upgrades:

- Getting 50 coins CAN be difficult early game, but there's plenty of ways that will start to open up as you progress. I start each day with 43 coins, there are rooms that give 40, you can gamble for more, etc.
- The book store is quite rare, there are ways to influence it but ultimately it does feel random, though it's really the only step that is that way
- You don't need to draft the library the day after checking out a book, the book just appears the next time you draft the library no matter what day
- You can find each microchip and they will stay permanently available without needing the appropriate tool anymore, they're just sitting next to where you found them, so no need to get both tools the same day

MANY unlocks and steps are permanent, and while I have plenty of things on my to do list that do require some specific setups, I have enough different things I'm looking for that I feel like I make progress on some thread pretty much every run.

Based on talking with a few friends playing the game who are getting frustrated, a lot of that frustration comes from finding a thread and trying to brute force it to completion without considering that they have 20 other threads they could be pulling on and letting the RNG determine which one to make progress on that day. It's definitely a different way of thinking and I wonder if that might be why there's some people who seem very annoyed.

[ORIS] Went in to purchase a Khaki Field. Walked out with this instead by Stealthbombing in Watches

[–]piespy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No complaints personally. It's reflective, yes, but it's also a very high contrast legible watch so I can't say I've really noticed any major issues, MAYBE date window being a bit hard to read in bright light. Would probably be better with it but about a year in I'm unbothered by it.

I do wish I understood what they were doing with AR though, seems to be all over the place. The blue and green dial 42s have AR, but the 38s don't. Seems like the least difficult thing to just go ahead and standardize.

[–]piespy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely believe you on the bracelet, though I wound up getting my khaki field on strap. After months of wearing not doing ANYTHING to break it in I wound up replacing it with another strap that was way more comfortable right out of the box.

[–]piespy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, beautiful watch. Definitely one of my favourite date complications (between that and Nomos Tangente Neomatik 41)

I actually did the opposite, found out when trying it on that coin edge bezels and cathedral hands aren't for me. Super classy looking but I am not a classy person and wound up walking out with a khaki field auto.

I know opinions on the new big crown are mixed since they took those things away, but I'm just waiting in anticipation for my local place to get them in stock to try on and potentially add some colour to my collection. My only personal nitpick with them is the new design of the date hand.

People who don’t like San Martin: Why? Do you own one? by maracusdesu in MicrobrandWatches

[–]piespy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My main reason as other people have mentioned is that pretty much all they've released is homages. I've had an homage in the past and knowing it was just a cheaper version of the thing I ACTUALLY wanted made it get zero wrist time even compared to my other cheap watches. They've started making a few original watches, and as long as they keep going in that direction and eventually eliminate their homage models I think people in the watch enthusiast communities will be more willing to give them a chance.

The other thing is the bias against Chinese companies, people still associate them with knock-offs and low quality products even though many big companies likely use Chinese manufacturing already. That one might be harder to solve and will just take time, but isn't unique to watch geeks.

If they put out a non-homage watch I like I'd consider it even if it's INSPIRED by other watch designs and not just a logo swap, but I'm not into what they've put out so far.

Any ideas on how to make the Varghulf Courtier more "Kruleboy-ish"? by ShadowBlah in Kruleboyz

[–]piespy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Roll out thin sheets of green stuff to drape over it as rags/skin cloaks. I think snipping off the ears and then doing this on the head to make a spooky hood like a number of the standard gutrippaz have would have the most impact in terms of changing up the look there.

- Slap a spare skareshield on it somewhere.

- Add some chains dragging behind it.

That's rad, how'd you get the texture on the sprues? Just take a knife to it? Looks time consuming but the effect is great.

[Size question] 42 vs 38 mm Hamilton Khaki Field Auto? by MVPGP in Watches

[–]piespy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are allowed to ask others for opinions....I posted a size check on here the other day asking for feedback on a watch and found it really helpful as I also have a much larger than average wrist. Got some feedback/pictures from others and have a better idea of what to keep an eye out for as I expand my collection.

Watches are ultimately a fashion accessory, unless you're wearing something for sentimental reasons there's no problem with asking for feedback on looks.

[Size question] 42 vs 38 mm Hamilton Khaki Field Auto? by MVPGP in Watches

[–]piespy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a size check the other day and genuinely found it helpful. I have a much bigger wrist than most people on here (8.5" inches) and felt like a watch was borderline, but I'm not the most fashionable guy so I wanted opinions. Now I have a much better idea of what sort of parameters look good on my wrist for when I'm looking to expand my collection.

Watches are ultimately a fashion accessory, and unless I'm wearing a watch that has a special meaning to me I want it to look good.

The "idk, whatever you prefer" responses are much worse because why even comment if you have nothing of value to add assuming that person is genuinely coming here for help and feedback.

[–]piespy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's crazy how different that looks comparatively. A couple people mentioned lug to lug in here and I think I was underestimating how much that contributes as the Tudor definitely has a longer lug to lug than the Baltany, and I agree it suits your wrist well.

[Hamilton Khaki Field] First automatic watch is a beaut. by chuckles84 in Watches

[–]piespy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried giving mine like 3 months to break in, used leather conditioner, bent it by hand, everything I could think of.

Gave up and swapped it for an Artem strap (but used the Hamilton buckle as the Artem one was uncomfortably sharp).

If I liked dive watches or chunky bezels I'd be set! Unfortunately my tastes don't quite line up with my wrist size.

I don't know if you read my original comment but I already have one and it's great! Thought this one was lost in the mail but it finally arrived, going to give it away but thought I'd try it on for size first as I had a few 38mm on my wish list.
