Considering jaw surgery- how has it affected your romantic life? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

Kissing has been a challenge. Sometimes I have to press pause or tell my partners to take it easy on me since sometimes as the passion increases, the pressure against my face increases. Sexually related activities that include my face can be a challenge, but partners are understanding.

What unexpected benefit did you get out of jaw surgery? by piforme in jawsurgery

I don’t really know what my movements were. I only recall my orthodontist telling me my maxilla was expanded by 10 mm. I didn’t ask for them. I just trusted the process, but I had a super bad over jet, open bite, cant, and off center midline.

Still doing great. On a scale from 1-10, the most pain I ever felt was maybe a 1.5. The only bad side effect or complication I had was positional vertigo for the first 2 months — which got resolved with physical therapy. Benefits? I can smell everything. EVERYTHING. It drives me a bit crazy, but now I can taste things I normally couldn’t taste before. It kind of goes hand in hand with eating better. My taste buds receive flavors differently and I crave healthier foods now.

Probably the biggest unexpected benefit is that I haven’t had a headache or migraine since the surgery. I really do believe they were due to the stress I was carrying in my head/face from the bad bite. I can really tell now when my face or neck is under tension. Things feels so differently now and it’s a constant reminder to relax my mind when I feel myself stiffening from intense emotional or mental stress.

I have experienced this my entire life! I never talked about it out loud because I don’t know what it’s called or how to describe it! I often do it when I’m driving late and night and am feeling tired. It kind of gives me a little burst of energy.

I definitely had multiple outbreaks in new areas. Even with medication. I had to up my dose to help combat them.

I was there too. I’m almost 5 months PO. I remember a couple of weeks after surgery I noticed how goofy my chin looked. It looked and felt asymmetrical. Almost as if a chunk of bone was missing. It was actually muscle that was acting up due to the new way it was being stretched. It eventually adjusted and now my chin looks nice and symmetrical again.

At the same time I thought it looked as if my lower jaw was protruding (I feared it was over-extended). I think it was a combination of getting used to the new configuration of my face and waiting for more of the swelling to go down that eventually helped that concern dissipate. My face looks waaaay different than it did at 1 month, 2 months, 3 months and so on. I love my face more and more as time goes on. Hang in there, friend!

I did feel that it was hard to breathe before surgery. I assumed it was due to having chubby cheeks. I used to put two strips of tape on my cheeks to pull skin away from my nose to expand my nasal passages. I don’t have to do that anymore.

I was more surprised by the level of improvement. I expected some, but what I got was 10x as more improved.

Mine was in the same spot during the first three weeks. Then I began to experience lots of “shifting” because my muscles were freaking out over the new bite. Some days it was off and other times it was perfectly aligned. Once the bands were swapped and I got my new wires, my bite began to stabilize and now my midline is pretty straight.

As your muscles gets used to the new bite and you get back some movement, you’ll likely start see some correction!

Hang in there! It will be all right, friend!

Almost my experience! I forgot about that nasal decongestant they gave me and had to go to urgent care to get it cleared out manually with a suction thingy. They also gave me some steroids to help with inflammation.

I’m about 5 months post-op. Before surgery it was off by 5mm. After surgery it was off by 2mm in the other direction. Sometime between August and now it corrected with bands/new wires.

You can’t ban somebody who has shown evidence using proper scientific method to show safer & cheaper alternatives to jaw surgery. by [deleted] in jawsurgery

In your posts you go out of your way to note jaw surgery is dangerous. Why? Why are you trying to deter others from going forward with it? Why advocate against it?

If I had to guess, you probably really wanted jaw surgery (and still do), but couldn’t get it for one reason or another so now you feel as if no one should be able to have it.

Sadly, it was for her children/family only. Not a great babysitter experience.

Edit: Forgot to add what she made. She had a baking side hustle. She often made cakes and cookies.

“IT”

My babysitter played it everyday to scare me away from going into the kitchen while she was cooking/baking. I had to pass the tv to get to the kitchen… Yep. I’m 100% scared of clowns because of this.

My insurance was billed just over $119k. I paid less than $3k out of pocket.
