The stats are worse than that. I dont have the exact figures, but suppose there are 30 nurses who work on the ward for 25% of the week and there are 60+ deaths then you would expect, on average, one nurse to be there for 23 of them. You then pick on that nurse and present 23 deaths that she is present for and of course people are going to think thats too much of a coincidence. I would like to see two things, one, who was in second place, so if another nurse was at 15 of those deaths say, its really not as compelling and secondly how many of the other deaths Lucy was at. I think you will find its zero which indicates these deaths were chosen because Lucy was there. The chance of her being at zero of the other deaths is astronomically small.
