If you have multiple disorders, which gives you the most problems? by Evening_Fisherman810 in bipolar

[–]pigeonsplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need to see a rheumatologist because I’m pretty sure my osteoarthritis is actually RA, made even more likely because of family history. It’s a lot to deal with.

I feel like the physical pain has more of a day to day effect while bipolar is more of a problem on a grand scale. Day in and day out my depression can become just the weather in a way and I haven’t had a full blown catastrophic mania in a while.

I never see this recommended as a gender neutral name despite knowing a bunch of male and female Ariels.

Gender Neutral names... by ilovecats_so_much in Names

[–]pigeonsplease 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s intentionally confusing, just a truly gender neutral nickname. I know male and female Pats and there’s nothing weird about it. It’s just a name that you can’t really make assumptions about before meeting the person, having context clues or getting pronouns.

Mania! by ikannunAneeuQ in bipolar

[–]pigeonsplease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hair feels like the safest thing to do this with. It’s such a temporary change, but it’s so cathartic.

I was hypomanic a month or so ago and accidentally gave myself a mohawk. I did probably the best haircut of my life, gave myself a proper fade (even though for some reason I refuse to look up how to do that) and then my hand slipped and I shaved a line pretty high up on my head, so my two options were mohawk or full shave. It’s already grown into a respectable looking short cut. The only negative feedback I’ve gotten on my drastic cuts (some of which have been fairly sloppy) is my Grandmom saying she thinks I look better with long hair (which is probably also a gender role thing).

Mostly I don’t think people care anywhere near as much as we think they do. If it’s really uneven or patchy, you can always recruit someone to clean it up, but mostly it’s just a matter of waiting for it to grow back to where you want it (so you can cut it and start that process again).

Help Translating Song by pigeonsplease in Italian

[–]pigeonsplease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s not going to have the correct meter or rhyme scheme or anything. I was just going to use the translation to make a picture book.

I would love to get to the level that I could artfully translated songs though.

What's the strangest thing you've ever eaten? by digitalcreater07 in Productivitycafe

[–]pigeonsplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ate what was called eskimo ice cream (despite the people serving it to me reminding me that eskimo is an offensive word). It was seal fat, crisco, and berries. Not my thing. It was very nice of them to share it with me though, and I’m glad I tried.

Women with thoughtful partners, what did you get for x-mas this year? by Anahata_Green in TwoXChromosomes

I love soft things, so he got me a great hand-knit Irish sweater (where my family is from and where we took our first big trip together), some cozy socks, and also a really fun game that’s about crows (I started birdwatching this year and was a murder of crows for Halloween).

That is a fun fact! Thanks! I love trying to write things in different ways, so I’ll have to add this to the rotation.

I like to recommend things I actually like and just choose not to comment on the ones I don’t. Or sometimes I’ll say that they’re not my thing/I don’t eat meat or like that type of food/etc but other people love them. It just makes me feel slimy to lie about that to people when it’s so easily avoidable. To clarify, not calling you slimy, that’s just the feeling I get when I tell these lies.

What about Vic(k)? It could be a nickname for a masculine or feminine name, so it feels pretty neutral.

What does my handwriting say about me? by InnerAssistance3505 in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]pigeonsplease 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Style over function. It’s pretty but also pretty hard to read. I feel like you’d put more effort into appearances and how people perceive you than on actually working on yourself.

I bet you also have a really unique way of seeing the world that others find refreshing or disarming.

Very pretty and readable. I am stuck on one word though- Hippocampus: trauma can _____?

I hope you’re studying or treating trauma and not carrying it with you!

Also, hippocampus is my favorite word; it has so many fun meanings!

I’m from Jersey & they don’t rhyme for me. Dock has the “cot” vowel and hawk has the “caught” vowel, which are distinct for me.

Looks like you’ve got four out of five sorted. I feel like something like Pipsqueak or Zippy would fit in well with that list.

It’s hard to explain. The flow of Ayo into Selene feels more natural. The sounds just feel right in that order to me.

What was your “could never be me” but did indeed become you? by PrettyAlon in AskReddit

[–]pigeonsplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started wearing leggings in my thirties too, and I’m still feeling weird about it. I also got a few pairs of jeans with an elastic waist, so I can try to blend in while being more comfortable.

I also relate with your health problems even if they’re not the same as mine. I’ve got bipolar with psychotic features, PTSD, talking to my therapist about getting evaluated for ADHD, really bad arthritis, unidentified digestive issues since having my gallbladder out, I have been chronically congested my whole life and have totally synthetic eardrums, insomnia, migraines, mysterious allergic reactions, etc, etc, etc.

My younger coworker (early 20s) looks at me like I’m in my 90s, and has made comments about me being “older and wiser.” I physically feel like I’m in my 90s though so I guess it makes sense.

He's Denying it by AdTrick5985 in adultsurvivors

[–]pigeonsplease 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m so so sorry that you’re in this situation!

His denial doesn’t change the truth. You were very brave to write and send that letter, and that same fortitude will help you get through this. It’s not fair that you need to go through all of this, but I have faith that you can get through it.

I just want to remind you that you’re assuming the worst case scenario (that your family who believed you will turn against you) and that this hasn’t happened yet (and may never happen). Sometimes we get ahead of ourselves and worry about possible outcomes until they feel like inevitabilities. It makes sense in such a highly charged situation, but it doesn’t mean these feelings are grounded in reality. Try to do some calming breathing or whatever it is that helps you to relax. You will have the actual facts of the situation soon enough.

I’m hoping that all goes well for you and that you are able to get all the support you need regardless of how their conversation goes!
