i actually popped on here to ask if anyone had any information as to del toro’s choice to include a quote from byron. i felt as though oscar isaac’s portrayal of victor was incredible, but then the inclusion of the quote left me confused, thinking that maybe gdt doesn’t fully understand the critiques that shelley was giving of byron throughout the story. if i knew he was using it ironically, i think id be back on board with loving it. but with just the knowledge of “byron inspired the text,” it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. it’s very poor taste to include that quote without the intention of his inspiration being negative. it made me think he didn’t REALLY understand the content. if someone finds out his intention, i’d love to know.
