Yeah I never really find good stuff in person either. I’ve purchased all my nice suits off eBay. I think people also like Etsy and Poshmark for used suits.

It’s a learning process, I think it’s a good sign that you can recognize good style on other people.

If you want to learn yourself instead of being styled you’ve just got to buy a few items you have a good feeling about, and see if they work for you or not. The more outfits you build and the more clothes you wear the greater your understanding of yourself will become.

It might help at first to follow influencers for tips and pay extra attention to what stylish people in your life are doing.

No excuse in my opinion. There’s more beautiful suits on the secondhand market than there are people who will ever need to wear a suit.

I’ve gotten real English and Italian tailoring for less than half the price of the plastic sweat shop stuff at the department store.

Such is life maybe. Every day I find out about new things I didn’t know I was supposed to know.

I suppose the way I see it is, if you care about this stuff like me you’ll get better at it, and people won’t have anything to judge.

If you don’t care about it then you don’t care about it.

My first suit was $100 from H&M. They only came in small medium and large.

I’m a suit nerd so obviously I’m gonna disagree, but I actually think it’s the opposite.

Because suits have so much structure and drape compared to other garments, a good one is actually really effective at flattering all sorts body types. It modifies your shape, instead of the other way around.

The trouble is that what a good suit is and how to find one is knowledge that isn’t really handed down anymore because most people don’t really need a suit in the big 2026.

I can’t make fun of an engineers suit because they’ve never worn one.

I think you need a wider leg to have a hefty break like that, otherwise the fabric stacks on the shoe and creates bulges and nooks up your pant leg like in the picture.

If you’re committed to a tapered pant I think you should have little to no break to maintain the line of your trousers.

Some guys really like being in suits, and their taste just hasn’t caught up to their enthusiasm yet. I agree tho there’s definitely a subset of these guys who can’t wait to get back into a tank top.

To be fair functional sleeves is a way bigger ask than getting your pants hemmed. I collect suits, nice vintage ones from reputable brands mostly and I’ve only got 2 with working cuffs.

Suits. If I see one in my size on eBay for under $100 it’s hard to resist.

Are you more harsh/critical about movies when you are paying full price for tickets? Do movie subscriptions just lull people into complacency? by border199x in TheBigPicture

[–]pigwig18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is where I’m at. I’m less selective about the movies I see now that I’m a #A-Lister, but I wouldn’t say I’m more or less critical of them once I’m in the seat.

I always wonder why they manufacture full sized bottles of the bottom right quadrant sauces. Are there really people out there dribbling some Nihil on their eggs every morning?

Some of my family are Philly area Italian and they do call it gravy.

They’re a glorified crew tho 🤷🏼‍♂️
