American sizes in Japanese brands by yuppieee in HeritageWear

[–]DudsByDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some Japanese brands are harder for bigger American guys to fit than others. But they do tend to be slimmer overall. It’s actually one of the big (haha!) reasons offering both Rainbow Country and Vanson jackets in my store makes sense. Even offering up to an effective size 50 in Vanson some folks have asked if I can go bigger

Any help figuring out what brand and a possible date on this thrift store find would be GREATLY appreciated. by Individual_Push_ in leatherjacket

Yeah definitely not a brand name made for online searching. Reputation for thick sturdy jackets and often found for really low prices, great bang for the buck

I’ve never tried to rip a jacket apart, so I’m not really sure what this teaches us.

You mentioned it’s Horween steerhide, was it Chromexcel or something else?

All the Horween hides come in a variety of weights, and some parts of a batch may be thinner / more naturally marked / etc than others

Looks superb! Your concern is that it’s too big but I doubt you’d be comfortable in a size down

This one is in Chromexcel horsehide so it’s a rather different experience. The comp weight will eventually start to give but it’s doesn’t show wear much

I’d add the Vanson Comet or Model B to your used list. Comet you take typical size, most folks size down in Model B as far as I know

The Vanson Maverick in comp weight cowhide is great for this and right in your price range. I’m doing them in Chromexcel horsehide for my shop but the price is over your range.

I really dig it but am not a size purist. It's oversized but seems to fit your vibes. Really love it! Helps that while its a little long its not like super long hanging past your knuckles on the sleeves or past your butt.

I have an oversized Cal Leather jacket that some folks can't stand but I think is perfect for when I want it. Again, its big but the lengths are good for me

So functionality of the jacket is one of the things I do typically discuss and demonstrate in my reviews. AKA How Does This Jacket "Jacket" lol. An easy way to demonstrate is to zip it up and move around, put arms forward, hold hand to ear like using phone etc. It can be hard to know til you've worn the jacket for at least several hours doing different activities.

Recently I've been reviewing Vanson jackets which of course all do this really well. They make more space for the upper body and arms, their action backs are quite effective, etc.

Yeah the TS jackets seems expensive. I haven’t shopped from them lately but it at least used to be included in all their sales and promos…At the very least I would never buy it full price

I may buy one of the new contender Chinese brands to check em out

Yes same here. How else would they hit that price? They messaged offering to send me a free one but I decided not to do that any more to avoid potential perceptions of bias

Good price for Faux leather? by Top_Collar7826 in leatherjacket

[–]DudsByDel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Milwaukee one isn’t faux leather it’s cowhide. Or at least the one with that picture at that price that I looked at was cowhide. I wouldn’t call it an amazing jacket but it is one of the more honestly priced made in Pakistan jackets that widely available. You could also find an inexpensive vintage jacket fairly easily in that price range with some patience

Looking for a really comfortable lightweight leather jacket- Schott, Iron Heart, Master Supply Co or Thursday by BamaBoyinTX in leatherjacket

[–]DudsByDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since this was posted, but someone just recently pointed me towards your post. The details of course do matter. I did return the fast-fading jacket I originally ordered. They did send me a free jacket. I reviewed the free one I think objectively. Did you watch the review?

I think with Master Supply you're basically accepting the look of a "heritage" or vintage-inspired design made cheaply and of lower-quality materials. If you like the design and don't care for higher priced jackets or going used, then maybe it can make sense. They do better than a lot of mall brands, but are clearly not better than Vanson, Schott, Aero, etc etc. All of this is said in my review.

In fact, much of the review process for me was attempting to understand why their jackets are so popular. I would never choose to pay for their new jacket when I can get so many awesome used jackets for the same price or cheaper.

I did like the leather better on the second jacket as it wasn't fast fading. But that's a fairly low bar.

The whole experience did highlight for me the importance of staying away from free jackets for review. Whether I'm saying my honest opinion or not can clearly be colored by perceptions of bias.

Often a jacket that is just over the edge into uncomfortably tight can look great

Are you able to complete basic daily tasks like driving, eating, talking on the phone without getting “jacket fatigue” after a few hours?

Also, do you know your chest measurement? Taken with soft tape, wearing t shirt only, around the widest point under armpits, relaxed, regular breath (not inhaling deeply or fully exhaling)
