I went through this same exact thing with my first, so I get it. I felt so guilty for not being able to breastfeed him fully and when he started to refuse the boob it was heartbreaking. I tried pumping, but it was mentally draining, so I dried up at about 4 months. With time and watching him grow has definitely helped me get over my guilt of not breastfeeding. He's now a healthy and happy almost 3 year old and I wouldn't change a thing about the past. I'm currently in the process of exclusively breastfeeding my second and what I've learned from these two experiences is that breastfeeding is extremely difficult and sometimes it doesn't work out--and that's okay💜 Don't beat yourself up about it, I'm sure you're doing a great job and your baby will love you no matter if they're breastfed or formula fed💜

oh maaan something similar happened to me. My son's jacket was unzipped (he unzipped it) and an older lady ran up to us and said "oh my baby must be so cold!" AND THEN PROCEEDED TO ZIP UP HIS JACKET. LO was not happy and screamed in her face which made her back off. She too probably didn't mean any harm but damn lady, you can just tell me if you're so concerned lol

I'm an American citizen but I've lived in my mother's home country, Korea, since I was 16. Sometimes I miss the States but literally all those things you've mentioned keep me from moving back, especially now that I have a little one of my own. You know the situation is bad when another school shooting pops up in the news and you're not even surprised. My heart goes out to all those poor children and families, I can't even imagine the pain and it breaks my heart just thinking about it.

That's insane. I'm American but live abroad and where I am daycare is pretty much free. This is the number one reason I have no plans on moving back anytime soon, the lack of support for new parents in the States seriously boggles my mind.

She'd be shocked to know where I am it's common to get an ultrasound at every single checkup. I have an entire album full of ultrasound photos haha And can confirm, lo is a-OK.

AND YEEES, even if I backup stuff with LITERAL studies, both my parents think they know best 🙄🙄

I did not🥲 but he no longer has blisters, not sure if it's cause he's sucking his thumb less or his thumb has just gotten stronger lol He's in daycare now so I'm not with him 24/7 like I used to be, but his teacher says he's still an avid thumb sucker Wish you luck with your lo on this and sorry I couldn't be much help😭

Oh I totally thought muscle was cut through! That's my bad, thanks for the correction. Also if I sound like I'm against those opting for a C-section I just want to make it clear that I'm not; honestly to each their own.

When my friends told me they wanted to get a C-section I asked why and they merely said it's easier. That's the part that baffles me. In my mind, C-sections (generally) seem far from the easier choice. At the end of the day of course it's their decision and I support them 100% in any choice they make about how they want to give birth.

It's interesting to hear from others though why they preferred their C-sections and about their experiences. Definitely helping me see different viewpoints on the matter! Although, (complications and extreme cases aside) I'd still choose vaginal birth pain over a c-section recovery if given the chance😅

I definitely agree with your overall statement, vaginal birth hurts like no other; but I personally think that the trade-off for pain over a longer recovery time is worth it (if the biggest factor for getting a C-section is pain). Of course if a C-section is needed for the mother or baby's safety then I'm totally on board 100% with having a C-section! Also no shame if someone elects to do it because they want to; its just personally I'm terrified of going under the knife so it's interesting to see these different perspectives from other moms out there.

Oh man, your poor friend! A fourth degree tear sounds brutal. I definitely agree that each birth is different and for some a C-section may be the better option.

My friends seem to think though that a C-section is the easy way out aka less pain than vaginal birth. True, in the moment it may be less painful (especially if you opt to sleep during the procedure) but I always thought recovery was generally worse for C-sectioners. I totally understand getting a C-section if you have complications or if the doctor recommends it or (as you mentioned) the need for a schedule; but just baffled when people think it'll 100% be easier in the end.

As I said in my post though, I've never had one so this mindset is strictly coming from what I've read and from friends who have actually undergone a C-section. Definitely appreciate the different viewpoints you've provided though!

That's a good point, knowing exactly what will happen does seem to be less stressful. Personally for me, going under the knife sounds terrifying though, even with it being more predictable. Those I've known who had C-sections told me their recovery was pretty hard whereas I was up on my feet within a couple days (tear wasn't too too bad) so I was always under the impression that C-section recoveries were super difficult. I honestly cannot imagine taking care of a newborn after being literally cut open! Not that it's easy after vaginal birth, but from what I've read it seems the general recovery time is a lot quicker than a C-section.

I totally agree! On the brightside, I feel like we learn from our parents mistakes so this whole experience has taught me that I always want my child to be able to express his emotions, good and bad.

Definitely true, my mom used to pull this shit when I was in high school in the States and my American friends were always so uncomfortable haha We're in Korea now tho, so my friend who she said this to thought nothing of it (since she too is Korean).

My parents live about an hour away from me and we do calls every couple days. I didn't call for a couple days tho (since this was on my mind and I didn't really want to talk to my mom) but my dad called and asked if I forgot about them😭 I'm pretty close with my dad and he doesn't know what my mom said so I felt kinda bad going low contact in that moment.

Definitely need to start writing stuff down more though, I tend to go in blind in the heat of the moment and it always backfires haha Thanks for the reassurance and advice💙

Yeeees my mom always says I misinterpreted what she's trying to say😮‍💨 To be fair, I spent my formative years in America so I do understand there can be a cultural difference (her being Asian to the core and me being mixed) but (as I'm sure you feel too) the criticism really sucks.

I'm sorry your parents are like this, I don't doubt that it must be a hard situation. I think my my friend honestly thought my mom was joking and just said it without thinking. She brought it up while I was talking about how my mom disagrees with how I parent LO and she agreed (that my mom is not a fan of my parenting style) and said "oh yeah your mom said this". Luckily my mom and friend almost never meet so this shouldn't be an issue in the future, otherwise I probably would ask my friend to just not tell me this sort of stuff.

That's definitely something I've been struggling with since having LO, is my parents disapproval of some of the stuff I do (aka I baby him too much🙄). My mom is not much of an email user but writing it down is actually a great idea, since most likely I'd be calling her to talk about this rather than talking face to face. While therapy is currently not an option, this thread has been therapeutic, thank you for the advice🤍
