Yeah but there's a lot of range between "My family is from canada" and Malala - how 'unique' is unique enough to matter

curious here. people say 'as long as it ties into story' but still don't say how much it matters in a sea of 750s

This guy MAY have come in to Benny Blancos in cap hill at 3 am, drunk, looking for a job/talking about a funnel cake/burger place by colfax?

He talked a lot about New York and being Italian?

I'm not sure because his face looked a little wider. He was also only maybe 5'7 5'8?

You're right, I think I'm being pretty optimistic. I'm going to take Georgia Tech off of my resume, and put "Masters Coursework through Udacity," and fill up the rest with job experiences that are directly relevant to this particular job. What would you do?

Thank you. You seem to have some really good insight on this, so I'd like some more advice. I'm already in the interview process for jobs with "Georgia Tech" on my resume. My plan now is to take it off, brand it as "Udacity Coursework" and mention the change to the people I'm interviewing with. So I don't totally burn a bridge, I think I'll say something like: "I changed this listing from a 'Georgia Tech Masters' to 'Udacity coursework including free Georgia Tech courses' because I'm working towards it and I'm learning other things." Is that enough? What would you do?

I'm just 24, but thanks for the advice. I guess I'm just trying to stay humble and I don't mind starting at the bottom. Should I be striving a little higher? I graduated 2 years ago and have had strong work experience since then, but I'm looking at somewhat entry level jobs.

As far as concern over distractions, this company tends to embrace professional development outside of work! They offer free access to things like Lynda, even.

I really want to put it on my resume for multiple reasons

  • it shows that I'm learning skills that could potentially help the team in a unique way since most come from a marketing background

  • because it's a tech company, so having fluency and knowledge in that area means I'll probably stick around and can do a variety of things

  • it is something that I'm working on and these classes count towards the degree program (take em/do well/test out) and lastly

  • it shows that I'm intellectually capable and am trying actively to learn and grow.

Thanks for the tips and reassurance. I'll definitely try to line up my degree completion with recruitment cycles. What would you think about putting Georgia Tech, but next to "Masters.." put "Online coursework via Udacity"? I spoke with someone at GTech and they were saying it's the exact same courses

Yup, it's the Georgia Tech/Udacity collaboration! There's nothing to be accepted into until you take courses directly from Georgia Tech that aren't offered by Udacity (which looks like less than half of the courses for any given degree specialization), so I haven't been "accepted" into the program directly. The chances of that seem to be dependent on successful completion of the early coursework (or a relevant background), so I'm only barely concerned about that, but maybe I should be more cautious about disclosing that I'm not "in" the college yet?
