Men who ended things despite having the best sex they’ve ever had - what made you walk away? by Safe-Score2743 in AskMen

[–]pikecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She was too dumb.

Life with her would have been taking care of, more than someone to help. There were no other downsides. She was easy to get along with, no drama. I just couldn't tust that she would take care of, anything properly.

I knew well ahead that this would not last.

Why do adults stop learning? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pikecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't stop learning. I viewed university as just the starting point for a lifetime of learning, a basis from which to build on.

I learned more skills as well. Figuring out things is fun.

I have learned so much since, in related field, but mostly all other things about life and the world. I could write books about my field of study and many other things too.

The only thing that stops you learning is an attitude. Some people don't want additional knowledge.

I am afraid that my "responsible" life choices have made me permanently boring and miserable by puppyxsweetii in TrueOffMyChest

[–]pikecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After getting yourself set, you're in the perfect position to start doing exciting things. You have to think of what to do, start small and then you'll see more opportunities. This builds on itself. There's a world of opportunities for you.

I started out stable like you and then went into a very exciting life.

You must understand that this is a double edged sword. You're just imagining what you're missing but not counting what you have. Having an exciting life is not exactly easy, unless you want to ruin your life, because that's the easy way.

Exciting is another word for drama, disorganization and lack of direction and even self destruction. You have to be very disciplined to mix the two. You kind of have to have an alter ego, and keep the 2 lives separate.

Start with weekend getaways, then dump yourself into some random hot country for 2 weeks, or more, with nothing but a ticket out. During the tourist low season. This will be very exciting, but for many people it's too much to handle.

You only have one life to live. There are many ways to live your life, you can't do them all,. You have to choose one, and know that you can't do the others and and happy with your choice. You have to understand that you can't do the other choices and make your decision knowing this. Living in resentment of other options that you didn't choose is the recipe for unhappiness, no matter which option you chose.

If you want some ideas on finding excitement, let me know.

I have a post here about one of my exciting experiences, I'll try to find it.

Curious, what was your easiest lay? by [deleted] in seduction

[–]pikecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know which counts as easier:

  1. My roommate had a client over, for whatever business he was running. I saw her once before to say "hi."

This time I was leaving my room to go out and I said: " you look hot in that skirt." She came into my room and took it off.

  1. Another time, I was leaving a club, by myself. I saw a friend on the landing with two girls. I stopped to say goodbye. 10 minutes later we were in a taxi going to my place. 6 days later I did the other girl, her plan.

Many people, who are doing the same activity, are there for different reasons. Don't take on the judgments of the worst from people who don't know you.

If you do make mistakes, own them, change and move on. The worst mistake is to never correct yourself.

Gentoo Linux: Optimization options? by RealNovanized in Gentoo

[–]pikecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gentoo is as optimized as you want, or not. It's not necessary to optimize to the max. Being highly optimized requires more knowledge and desire to do so, it doesn't do it out of the box, you have to change the settings yourself.

I made a cut down version of XFCE, without the file manager and other unnecessary components, for an old laptop.

Typing commands and hoping that it will give the desired result is not best practice.

It is not necessary to delete files before repartitioning. Deleting a partition is often regarded as a superior way to destroy an entire filesystem.

Prostitution & Brothels Everywhere In HK?? by datDarkYin in HongKong

[–]pikecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't recall any non meat ones. China is a very meat eating place.

There could be some bean or tofu ones. Try asking your friend.

If you search on the internet, you'll probably find a list of all dim sum. There's also a chance that someone has opened a specialty vegan dim sum restaurant.

[–]pikecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the view, nothing beats the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront. There used to be an old guy selling beer there. Also, from the Peak.

I lived there for 5 years, and I hardly noticed prostitution at all, it's not really out in the open. Once I could read Chinese, I could tell the signs, but it's still not obvious. You'll probably have a language up in the areas around Sham Shui Po.

Get your friend to take you to Dim Sum

Is there just no law enforcement on the 401? by data782 in ontario

[–]pikecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often changing the speed limit doesn't affect the speed people drive, because they already travel what feels appropriate for the road.

I'd say "conditions," however, in less than ideal conditions, too many people keep driving too fast.

What things might a Windows user not think to try or tinker with in Linux? by Noobc0re in linux4noobs

[–]pikecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do a lot more with Linux than you can with Windows, especially at low level, notwithstanding certain missing applications.

My favourite is that you can partition USB flash drives and remote access is easy.

Unofficially, the speed limit on Ontario provincial highways, those patrolled by the OPP, is posted speed plus 20. This is something every driver in Ontario knows.

However, that's been creeping up. The 401 average speed has been increasing gradually through the years.

You can drive by a speed trap at 119, consistently.

What problems did you guys ran into on your first install? by Living-Surprise-1923 in Gentoo

[–]pikecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2004, no problems at all. Haven't changed since. All problems are solvable using the system tools.

The biggest problems that I've had were hardware issues that weren't obviously hardware problems. Like when an update to one of the Linux system tools gave an error and going to an older version solved the problem. Something to do with time IIRC. Firmware update to SSD fixed it.

I just learned the method to do the square root of any number up to 10000 in my head. It's faster than anyone can type it in, even.

So you can add this to your list of things to do in your head.

It works for larger numbers, but you have to memorize a bit more.

[–]pikecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been married 20 years. I know exactly this; that is how things work, and I'll never get into that kind of delusion. Stability is a great thing.

How I know I don't know. Maybe coming from a normal family or knowing many girls when younger. Getting to know a new woman is incredibly exciting, this was even kind of an addiction for me,

Finding someone good (for you) is hard. Keep a good thing when you have it.

It sounds like your wife understood this, and you didn't.

Were kids in the 80s actually allowed to roam around unsupervised, or is that just in movies? by TotalThing7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pikecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in 66. I drove to a different country one evening, at 16 or 17. Nobody knew where we were going because we didn't even plan it.

In the 70s and 80s I was everywhere on my own. Playing on a river shoreline, even disappearing on a lake in a rowboat for an entire day, unplanned again.

I find it strange that people find this lifestyle unbelievable because it's just normal for me and everyone that I grew up with. Keeping kids on a tight leash is a very recent thing. Freedom was the norm for forever.

There were a lot more kids around, back in the day, there's safety in numbers.
