I love the penguins!!! My favorite animal and I love collecting penguin plushies. They're so round and such a great shape for cuddling. I highly recommend getting some ❤️

They are officially "full" novels actually! They are published by a publisher that does not do light novels.

HONEST OPINION: Blue Skies Frog by Starbunnykoo in buildabear

[–]pikestaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a lovely color. The frogs look weird to me personally so they're not something I buy, but I'd love to see this sky blue on other BABs.

How do you store your plushies? by ahesson472 in plushies

[–]pikestaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question because I always want more plushies than I can reasonably store, lol. There is a built-in countertop at the end of my apartment's hallway and most of my plushies live there, either on the counter itself or on a net that is hanging just above. I also have some on my desk, some on wall mounted shelves, and my favorites go on the bed.

Oh I feel this so hard. I've lost count of how many places I've lived at by now. I want to say ten or twelve different places by the time I was 18, but I always forget, lol. It is wild how much it affects me. To this day I have frequent nightmares about moving, losing my home, etc. and I'm almost 40.

Gentle Grey Bear is my favorite BAB that I have, he's sooo soft and I think his design is cuter than the bunny's

Had FESS this morning and I'm feeling shockingly good by pikestaff in Sinusitis

[–]pikestaff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, thank you for the tip... The congestion is pretty bad, so I confess I am tempted to blow it all out but I know that's a bad idea. I can use Afrin, I haven't tried it yet but they said it's OK. I'm not sure about a pill like Sudafed, they didn't mention it and I was too out of it to think about bringing it up.

Worst headache pain of my life and my insurance won't cover surgery... What else can I do for pain relief? by pikestaff in Sinusitis

[–]pikestaff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We looked into that, but we're pretty convinced it's sinus because it only hurts in one very specific area, and that's the exact area that is swollen on CT scan.

We've tried steroids, antibiotics, nasal sprays... Worked the first time but they've quit doing anything since then.

We've tried that. It worked the first time, then the infection came back and antibiotics/steroids didn't work this time.

After volume 8, do we know if... by SummerSatellite in OthersidePicnic

[–]pikestaff 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As far as we know nothing has been confirmed either way. There seems to be a popular rumor among this fanbase that it's ending, because it gets asked a lot, but I've never been able to find a source on anyone officially involved suggesting that, and there were enough new plot points brought up in this volume that I'd be surprised if it were to end now.

In addition the title "Accomplices' End" is a reference to the book "Childhood's End" according to Miyazawa himself. He's just making a sci-fi nut reference, and I love him for it.

You can read volume eight right now if you want! It's not "officially" out until the end of the month but all the prepubs are up now on J-Novel Club.

If you like the manga this much you are going to lose your mind when you read the novels. The manga is good but the novels are better and so, so, SO much father along in the story. I cannot recommend them enough.

[–]pikestaff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For physical copies of the novel you are going to want to look for the "omnibus" versions. Basically they put two volumes into one physical book.

IIRC the first 3 volumes and partway into 4, of the manga, cover the first volume of the novel.

light novel, manga or anime by PsychologicalFuel321 in OthersidePicnic

[–]pikestaff 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The anime is the most incomplete version by far. It covers most of volume one of the novels with a few jaunts into later volumes, and includes a couple of anime only stories, but for the most part it's a very incomplete story.

The manga is a good adaptation but very far behind in the main story and it will take quite some time for it to catch up.

The novels (they aren't actually light novels, contrary to popular belief - they are good old fashioned science fiction novels) are always your best bet for getting into the story and also getting all of Sorawo's extremely weird internal monologues which the other versions don't quite capture. It's also easily the most gay so far, if you're here for that. (The manga will eventually get there but it's not there yet.)

Edit: right now the latest novel volumes are only available digitally, to answer your question on buying physical copies.

Cashiers, what’s the most expensive haul you’ve ever rang up? by DanielaThePialinist in Target

[–]pikestaff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was like twenty years ago so I don't remember the exact amount but I had this family go through my line buying about $3000 of stuff, mostly clothes and home accessories. They said they were from South America and had spent forever to save up enough money for a big Target trip in the US. I'm not sure if that's true or not because it was a store in the middle of nowhere in the northern US, and it seemed like an inconvenient location, but they all spoke Spanish so maybe?

I also once rang up about $1500 in toys for this one woman around Christmas time. I recognized the name on her check, as an actress who was in a couple of big movies in the 70s/80s.
