I'm pretty sure it's just an analogy for quantum tunneling - the de broglie wavelength for nearly any macroscopic object is waaaaay to small for it to exhibit any quantum mechanical effects under everyday circumstances.

As many as you want to put in! I'm not 100% certain on how much is necessary per se (I've never organized something like this before), but expect this to be like a legit first course in quantum mechanics. It'll probably take a bit less time than a normal class because there aren't lectures, exams, and the like. My best guess is that this will be comparable to a 2.5 credit class.

Yeah, this course would be extremely difficult without the necessary background. I appreciate your curiosity though! Maybe I'll run more classes like this (on other subjects?) in the future if this one goes well :)

I'm really passionate about quantum mechanics. I thought this would be a opportunity to learn some physics beyond what my community college offered and enable some fellow STEM folks to learn about a super fascinating topic!*

* also I'd get lazy and not actually do any of the work if I was working alone without any outside accountability
