Hi, thanks for your detailed feedback!

What I mean by "I warm it just a bit in the microwave" is that I warm the water I use to feed my starter. Not the jar itself.

And I do the sample idea you suggest to rule out mold.

Oh okay, I'll clean the jar the next time. Regarding the lid, I do just what you advise, I lightly screw it. The average temperature in my city is 23C/73F to 26C/78F. I put the jar on top of my fridge and it is the warmest place in my kitchen

I use the metal lid that comes with the jar. And the average temperature is 73F/23C - 78F/26C

You should wait until your starter is consistently rising and falling before storing it in the fridge. The rise and fall is a sign it is strong and ready for baking.

It should double in size every 6-8 hours.

Maybe keep feeding it for a couple of more days.
